Shut down everything and rent a Mumble server (£3 a month), a TF2 server (£14) and a website for chat (£5-ish). Boom, we've cut 2/3 of our costs. I know I'd be more willing to donate, it wouldn't feel so much like throwing money into a pit.

:O but what about the freak fortressers that we justified keeping by saying they'd been bankrolling the place and oh what if some hot game comes out that allows for dedicated servers to be run by the community that we suddenly all want to play together (it happens so often!) and dont forget those really complicated map vote systems (that aren't quite good enough to stop payload being played) or that noticeboard thing everyone used to rush to check at the start of the round to see whose birthday it was.

No don't mind me and my wacky ideas, I'm sure a sarcastic response to justify why such a small community needs £741 a year to keep the lights on is imminent. And at least it keeps someone connected with their hobby.

Salman, I'm not sure what your in game name is, but thank you, thank you, thank you. That's incredibly generous of you! This helps out the community so, so much.



Hopefully in the coming weeks we will transitioning to another, more affordable server, which will be open to co-hosting with other communities.

I think it was about time it happened. I'll probably feel more inclined to donate now.
