Post Moving to a new server
We are moving to a new dedicated server. It's going to be cheaper, and potentially even better, than our current server. We are going to be sharing it with another long running UK based TF2 community, Trigger Happy Gamers. This is great news for both the HH & THG, as we can now directly and indirectly support each other, and provide better value and service to our communities and supporters.

We are testing a couple of different configuration options that will allow us to share the dedicated server fairly, with minimal restriction and without impacting on each other.

Currently, the new dedicated server is running Citrix XenServer which is then used to create a close-to-the-metal virtual server running Debian. All of our existing services, i.e. game servers, hlstats, the web site, database and mumble will be replicated on to it. Using server tokens and DNS, these services will be gradually moved over to the virtual server, so that performance can be measured.

HH2 is currently running off of the new server. Your existing bookmarks will continue to work, thanks to this update from Feb 2014 which added IP tracking to game server favourites. Favourites will automatically update to new server IP addresses if the game server is using a persistent account (which we do).

Mumble will be switching over to the new server once the DNS has updated, which should be within a few hours. Anyone joining using a bookmark that uses mumble.thehh.co.uk:50114 will connect to the new server.

HH4, the FF2 server, will be moving tomorrow (26/01) morning.

As this is a test run, please post here with any performance observations. If things aren't working out, then services will be moved back to the original server and a different configuration will be tried on the new server.

Post Re: Moving to a new server
mumble.thehh.co.uk is now pointing to mumble on the new server and HH4 has been moved.

The website/database is being rsync'ed.

Going to point thehh.co.uk at the new IP address and see what happens. Most things should continue to work, some stuff that I've overlooked/forgotten about might break.

Broken list :: broken stuff that will be fixed soon.
* Mumble viewer on front page. FIXED
(need to install ice for php and reinstall mumpi)

Post Re: Moving to a new server
Ok, so most of our usual stuff is running off of the new server.

As this is a test, we now need to give it a good test run. I want to make sure that we make right decision and time is ticking. I have a very limited amount of spare time before the cut off point of our current server, which is the 12th February. Most of the available time that I have is within this week.

It would be great if we could get HH2 full and for members and regulars to give feedback on how it feels compared to how it usually is.

Please report any performance issues in relation to TF2, FF2 & mumble servers.

If something seems good, then it would be good to hear that too.

I don't have much time to do any testing myself, as the learning, building and migrating is taking up most of my spare time.

Cheers :)

Also, how are everyone's TF2 favourites/bookmarks? Are your existing HH2 or HH4 favourites working ok? They seem to work for me, but it would be good to hear if they are NOT working for anyone.

All good here, HH bookmarks updated and functioning OK.

Not sure if this helps, but my ping on an empty HH2 is now in the low teens where previously it was in the twenties. I'm based in West Sussex.

I'll try to help get a full server up and running later on for a proper test.

Looks good so far, thanks to all involved for making it happen! [beer]

Great stuff! (WAV)

Everything working fine for me so far.
There is one thing that I noticed though: the maps don't seem to have a timelimit set anymore, so the server is stuck with the current map unless there is an admin on.
