If you type '!vent' whilst playing on one of our TF2 servers then Ventrilo will automatically launch in the background and connect you to the regs lobby of our Ventrilo server.

It would be possible to create triggers for each channel.
e.g.
!ventred - to connect you to the red channel for the current server.

But not sure yet if it's worth doing.

No mate its better if people join into a channel with people there all ready.

I tested this out last night after I saw it pop up and unfortunately it still alt-tab's you, bit gutted as I hoped it wouldn't as it can cause problems for me. :f

Still though, good job Jase, I'm all for more integration between the web side and the ingame side and this together with the message boards achieves this nicely imo. :)

I don't think we really need a password to be fair.

There is allways a admin about I mean how bad can a griefer be worst then Bed Or Neg ?

Just a quick question/point, you would have had to have joined the channel before and typed the password for this to work wouldn't you?

If not, wouldn't this allow muppets to still connect and annoy people after finding the way round....

The !vent trigger has the password embedded, and shouldn't be visible. Allowing people on our server to connect without having to remember or even know what it is.

Ventrilo griefs are a rare breed. Generally they just port scan ip ranges for open Ventrilo ports and then go from there.

If someone is stupid enough or randomly decides to connect to our servers in a hope to find a trigger to automatically connect them to a Ventrilo server to grief, then we just steam ban them from the servers. But really I can't see this happening. It's not how Vent griefs operate. They work from the desktop and use scripts.

Its not possible without having to make things really complex to make it so that it joins you to a channel with people in. Also there is the problem of how would you be able to give a system the intelligence to know if a channel that is busy should be excluded from being joined because its being used for a match.
I'm not sure I fully understand what you're suggesting.

Could make it so that !vent joins you to the Ventrilo root lobby and !ventregs joins you to the passworded Regs lobby. Anyway I dunno. I thought atleast it was a way to quickly/easily get people into Ventrilo when they have forgotten to join, forgotten the password or whatever.

Btw, it's also possible for an admin to force/invite a player (or even all players) to join Ventrilo by sticking a target at the end of the trigger.

Cheers for clearing that up Frog, just another one or two (sorry!!) how does it open up vent?

As in does it try and open the default install location or is there a really clever way it works?

And to fix the alt-tab problem, is there a background switch that can be added to the opening pathway to stop it opening up on top of the game?

Don't worry mate I meant its good that it puts people into the regs channel as that's the one we use so people are allways in there.

I was agreeing don't need a command to pick channels the vent command you have done is enough on its own.

I'd guess using an appliaction-link like "ventrilo://vent.thehh.co.uk:4382/".

I do tend to agree with this, in my entire time on Vent I have witnessed two griefers.

1) Played horrific screechy dentist tool noises, now that was annoying.
2) Played clips from Metal Gear Solid cutscenes. This was actually quite funny, he never talked or acknowledged us. "MEEEAAARRRAAAHHHLLL".
