Our existing Ventrilo server was coming up for renewal, and due to it being somewhat unstable recently we decided to change to a different provider.

The new details for the new server are:

On the subject of vent, how comes i cannot join the server via the in game route?

on i side note: i know vent is mainly for chatting while playing. Though occasionally it is used for voice-comms in comunity events. So why not mumble ? The latency is WAY lower than ventrilo (tested it myself). Ventrilo has a noticable delay .. so that "incoming" and "spy" shoutings get kinda pointless if you need that half a second.

The comp teams don't live on mumble. Mumble is used for competitive play, but you will regularly find plenty of the comp team members on Vent, just like the rest of us.

Vent is the app that the community supports, in no small part because frog has put a lot of time and effort into integrating it with our website and servers. Vent is also used for *all* community events rather than occasionally.

We've discussed (extensively) the various virtues and flaws of using vent, or mumble, or even teamspeak3 and our decision was to stick with Vent.

Please do not turn this into a discussion about the merits of mumble, vent, or any other voip service. We've had that discussion and we've reached a decision.

What SHP said, but with the addition that if anyone can find a UK based Mumble provider that supports ICE (a remote procedure call mechanism) then let us know. The lack of ICE support from Mumble providers is a primary reason for sticking with Ventrilo.

Without ICE we can not display who is in the server on the website nor in the in-game messages in TF2 and BC2. ICE allows Mumble to be integrated with the rest of our services and servers in the same way Ventrilo is.
