The current |H|H| server is powered purely by community donations. Over 171 people have donated, at some point, to keep our community servers online. Every month just over £125 has to be paid, and amazingly we have been able to keep on meeting this target, and long may it continue.

None of this would be here without this happening.

Minty and I have been investigating the possibility of upgrading our dedicated server, and getting the best value for the community.

WOOP!

Currently the community is paying £120 a month for a box with an Intel Xeon X3220 Four Core @ 2.40GHz with 8GB RAM and 500GB HDD.
The current purchase price of a X3220 processor is around £150.

For the same monthly fee we will be upgrading to a Intel Xeon E7450 Six Core @ 2.4GHz (14.4GHz!) with 16GB RAM and 1TB HDD.
The current purchase price of a E7450 processor is around £2000.

SCHEDULE
Minty will be ordering the server tomorrow (Friday 28th January), it will take appromiately 7 days until it is delivered and installed in a rack in the data centre. I will then start migrating everything from this server to the new server. After a brief test period this server will be switched off and our current IPs will be re-allocated to the new box.

There will be some down-time when nothing except for our Mumble server will be accessible.

There will be prior warning when the exact time and date is known.
