I think this qualifies as a news/announcement, as it's a pretty serious one. Duty calls and I gotta leave for the army next Monday. I can likely check back here after two weeks when I'm off duty, or on weekends, or during breaks if I get permission to take my laptop there, but I'll be online a lot less for now on. Minimum duration is half a year, but it's possible I'll be there for up to a year too if I'm interested or officer material. Applied for "mechanized/anti-tank" line infantry (Jääkäripataljoona in Finnish), communications/messaging, and artillery in order of preference. See you guys later.

And yeah I suppose you could call it national service. Every man in Finland either needs to apply for one year of civil service (basically doing some payless job ) or go to the army. Picked the latter because frankly, it sounds more interesting and it's also an opportunity to grow as a person and learn some vital skills for the future. (Plus the civil service guys are universally thought as wussies )
