Class limitations is a double-edged sword. Take them away and people will have problems with it. Put restrictions on and people will have problems with it. Everyone has their own preferences when playing TF2 and their own view on how it should be played, so there really is no "right" decision to make here.

I think the best idea would be to put restrictions on one server, and have none on the other, I think that would leave it in the players hands.

I played a game where the opposition consisted only of pyros en demos. It was a cesspool of spam the likes I have never seen in TF2. To be fair I only ran into this situation once so maybe a limit isn't necessary.

You are right in saying the game is still young and people need to have the chance to learn how to play the game. However I feel the this is what the jolts and multiplays of this world are for. I expect a higher level of play from clan servers and thus I think limits which encourage team play are a good thing. And I really hate snipers ;)

Maybe we should first discuss what kind of servers we and the rest of the community want before we decide if or what kind class limits we put up.

erk! t'is a tricky one to call... I agree with sniper limits tho, mainly because too many people seem to play sniper and do nothing (other than battle with the other snipers). Snipers can be really good on offense, taking out sentrys/people holding CP's but (and before I get shot down, there are some really good snipers out there) I see too many just sitting back not taking risks and not taking enough frags to make it worthwhile...

Other than that, I've never been in a game which has had serious problems of too many ppl in any class... teambalance is another issue....

I guess in reality tho the whole thing is self-balancing as a team comprised entirely of engineers would result in an opposing team of.. umm... say demo's and spys (well, possibly, but you get the point), which in turn would result in some pyros and maybe snipers... and then some sort of balance has been restored... I doubt a team with too many of one class will survive long....

So I think I'm happy if things are left as they are... I didn't even think there was a problem....

Only class that needs restriction thats not sniper is engineer to about 5...maybe 4

Still think we should limit Engs.

Have you played on Gpit with 4 or 5 engs its not good.

I agree apart of that Only snipers and engs need limits.

Here's my 50 Cents worth...

...and for open games, I would prefer to have a cap on Snipers (2 or 3) and Engys (3 or 4). Ok, it may be fine if you're on the opposing team and can take advantage, but it's a real pain in the arse if you're on the team with e.g. 4 Snipers or/and 5 Engys and you can't persuade your teammates that maybe it's not such a good idea, in terms of capping a point/stealing the intel/making the game more fun.

I really think engies need limiting...This morning on Dustbowl my team had about 8 engineers at one point....this makes it almost impossible for the opposing team (i'm talking about 2nd cap on first stage). I reckon a limit of 5 would be about right, not too high or low. All other classes I'm not bothered about, even snipers don't bother me that much...It's just when over half the team are engineers...makes the game a bit dull imho

For the most part having lots of one class leaves a team at a disadvantage (except the odd occasion like engies on some sections of dustbowl), so the limits are there to help other players on the same team enjoy it more, because playing 2fort for half an hour with 6 engies and 3 spies sucks beyond belief. On the other hand it can be annoying not to be able to choose a class because its full of noobs who are not contributing and you could really use a teleporter or forward SG.

I would limit 3 engies and 2 spies, I don't think snipers or demomen cause a problem.

the thing about teams with tons of engineers in my experience is that they pretty much always crumble.

sure they have the most powerfull game in the gun (whoops didnt mean to do that but i'll keep it there anway) but once it's down it takes a while to put back up. NOW if you DO have an orginised team of engineers who are working together to get sentries up and runnning fast than its harder BUT that is completely and utterly the aim of the game - Working TOgether.

and once the engineers guns are down the defending team is pretty impotent *snigger*. so if we do have a cap on engineers im for putting it at a high number such as 5+. someone mentioned it being a nightmare of gravelpit having 4 engineers, and in my opinion that is EXactly the map BEst suited for multiple engineers. the ideal situation is basically 2 engineers at A and B with defenders supporting them and completely locking the other team out.

but this game is a very well balanced rock paper scissors, and multiple engineer teams are definatly at a disadvantage if they dont have a good class mix. something everyone really needs to learn the hardway
