As somebody who has to work with various Linux distros I can understand the reluctance to change. Especially if, as you suggested, you are planning to switch from a RHL-based to a Debian-based one. Also kudos to you for learning about custom kernel compiling ... not in eight years of *nix usage have I gotten my lazy bum up to tackle that. Good luck!

so all these other linux servers that seem to be ok now, are they using a different "distro" ?
confusing stuff
You are asking a question about something without refer to anything in particular. You could find out yourself. Pick one of these other linux servers and speak to the admins, ask them what distro they are using and for a 'lspci' of their server hardware.

I would assume that through all of this, since you are the main guy that has been trying to get to the bottom of the problem, that you would have endeavoured to find out how other linux tf2 servers are running so smoothly and then try and use the same kernel/distro version and settings etc that they are using. So I thought u might know the answer to my question, thats why i asked you here. but i shouldnt have bothered because I just get another response typical of you.
its almost as bad as:
dazed: "apprently theres a newer version of snakewater, rc3. on the server we have rc2
any chance of uploading rc3 some time?
thx!"
Frog: A link would be nice.
and to think you called me arrogant the other day.....
Let's not argue about this, but I think that if anyone expects someone to do something for them or a question answered for them, then they should try to make an effort to make that happen, or provide enough information.
If someone wants a map put on the server then supply a link, rather than expecting someone else to track it down. (I can't believe you thought it was bad or arrogant of me to say that I thought to would be nice if you supplied with a link to the map what you wanted me to put on the server for you.)
If you are asking a question about comparing servers then refer to the particular server that you want things to be compared to, rather than expecting someone else to track it down or guess what you are referring to. (Why should it all be down to me? I'm not employed by the |H|H|. I'm just like anyone else here, I donate to keep things running and do what I can. Currently I'm the only person that is trying to do something to fix the problem, so why not help me out rather than just expecting me to do more and more.)
This is how I work. It's called working together and helping each other.
I don't know why you expect me to run around after you.
My only concern is with this server and it's particular hardware. When you need to fix a car then you fix the car. Looking at other cars doesn't help.
