Its definately a marmite map and while i'm a hater too, the simple fact it gets voted for is reason enough to keep it because some must like it.
I think though its more an issue with the voting system. You basically have 3 groups of people, CP5 lovers, PL lovers and weird map lovers. If all 3 come up as options then quite often a map can be voted in with a 30-35% win, which leaves the majority of people sad.
IMO, a map should require >50% to be played. Is it possible if, in the above situation of 3, 30% voted for, the top 2 go on to a further vote to ensure a 50% choice?

That's what we have on the Saxton Hale server. However there might be some awkwardness with using the same plugin on the other servers, as it'd need to use info from the map rating system...

I'm not so sure that it's a simple as just those 3 groups. I'm sure there are many more and it's not so clear cut as you might think.
Soon enough there will be a map voting system that utilises the built-in TF2 VGUI voting system AND map ratings AND an option second round of voting. Until that time we'll just have to endure the trauma of being confronted with the occasional map that we don't like so much.

Haha if you can convince this to go through I want you to come to the UK and try and get Alternative vote (which is what this is) through, probably to complicated for a mapvote every match, sometimes people just want the dialogue box to go away (although I am a heavy supporter of AV )

Re: Hydro
Why is Hydro terrible? Was the first map I ever played on TF2 years ago and I still like it. Better than some overplayed maps like badlands or gravelpit. Yeah, they're nice, but it's not a competitive game that we're having so we play only on one map. It gets BORING!!! I vote for whatever I think won't win (like hydro in the case or dusbowl or whatever). I like to see new maps and not only the same. If I play 4 times badlands in a day (7-8 hours playing roughly) then it just gets repetitive and dull. Imo it's not maps fault, it's players - they WANT to not like hydro so they don't like it. What is the problem of playing it like any other map? Your mindset (or whatever, idk if it's correctly used). Yesterday I was playing on 1 and server was half full to empty. Mapvote came in and I said to vote for dustbowl. People hate dustbowl, right? Yeah, but server got filled in minutes when it came. And it always is the same - dustbowl comes in, people come. And it's not the f2p 2, it's 1 - regulars came. Why is that? Every time it is a coinicidence or what? Try to relax and have fun of the game. I don't feel comfortable if a certain map comes in (hate granary for example, and it's overplayed as well) but I don't leave when they come.
Why not just have Badlands 24/7 ? Because if you raise the number of votes required, this will lead to the same few maps being played even more than it is already right now.
I'm not saying Badlands is the worst map around (though I'm not particularly fond of it) and I'm not saying Hydro is the greatest, but still I'd vote for Hydro when I get the choice between those 2. The reason is simple : variation. Badlands gets played way too much, and maps like Hydro hardly ever. It's even come to the point where I go to another server as soon as Badlands pops up again.
