No further observations required. Please post your performance observations, since the new server build, when playing on a full |H|H| TF2 server. Please try to give thorough information. The words stuttering, lag, etc. on their own have no context and are of no use. From the command line a full TF2 server doesn't seem any better. The process monitor tells me that a full TF2 server now requires, almost continuously, more than 100% of a 2.4ghz core, and as the SRCDS isn't multi-core, this is an issue. By this reckoning the situation appears to be worse. I need to check with alpha-networks if there are addition overheads due to them moving us to a cloud based dedicated server as part of the process, where as before it we were using half of a 12 core x 2.4ghz, 32 GB RAM box. Further research is required. If it turns out that 2.4ghz is inadequate to run a TF2 server smoothly, then we need to seek a whole new alternative. Hopefully either a custom kernel or some advice from other SRCDS Linux admins running Debian will lead to better results without having to renegotiate a new hardware deal. |

General responsiveness is extremely similar to the previous server build (it can feel like you're waiting a full second for a hitscan weapon to register a successful hit/hitsound), except there are now much more frequent drops into Yellow figures for the SV Network Graph value (depending upon where you're standing, it was happening every 5-10 seconds), which results in some nasty stuttering/hitching. Screenshot is from a demo recording, if you're wondering why there's no client-side network activity. |

perfect for the first 15 minutes. Then some stuttering and after about 45-50 mins of gameplay, a lot of stuttering - worse than before :/ |

Okay,I dont say anything server regards, just to say what I wrote wasnt in any means to insult you or your work (which you may have thought since you gave me the f word). My conclusion was just new distro = working fine = if it doesnt work fine = there may be some work beeing done right atm at it. I dont take it personal for you beeing pissed off by whatever happens/happened, but next time a "I am busy right now" would also work. ![]() (no "stuttering", more like lag spikes [shooting around corner, hits happen 2-3 seconds later] and warping of players) |

I have been working all day under duress and I don't respond well to people repeatedly sending me steam requests that I need to do something now. It's 10:30pm, I've been working 12+ hours, so when 'go away' gets ignored it quickly becomes 'fuck off'. All things considered "Fuck off" seems most suitable. |

The entire server (as in, all players) Experienced a period whilst playing on CP_well of near constant minor rubberbanding. It was as if everyone had 150 latency, only according to the scoreboard, everyone appeared to have typical latencies. It lasted a minute or two before restoring back to smoothness. |

Stop beeing paranoid. I work till 2-4 am in the night at peak times and then dont go home telling my gf to fuck off just because I am stressed. I wrote to you and waited while playing TF2, telling people to be patient with your work and since I didnt get a response in like 6-10 minutes I tried to contact you again. Tbh, "go away" or "fo" is no answer which is satisfying. Maybe if you try to answer in a civil way next time ppl would stop bothering you sooner. OR GO OFFLINE IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE DISTURBED. Durp. |

All i've seen in about 90 mins of play yesterday was occasional minor lag spikes, and then... The rubber banding effect where its almost as if the server was asleep for a second before it decided to carry on playing. Maybe a idea to moniter the server in some way so you can see if its the server causing the spiking or the route to the server. We had that on another GSP where the server was running smoothly and the one of the hops inside the data center was causing the spikes. Boris <<<still has w00t cookies for frog...... I cant even manage to ssl into my CentOS VM on the uber linux box with having to use a root account from another PC... so why cant it use a user account arrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh |

Not sure am I being helpful, just wanted to share my experience: Yesterday evening (10 pm GMT?) the lag was extremely bad at some point (map was Badlands). With lag I mean players teleporting and soldier rockets actually disappearing somewhere, if that's even possible. I swear I shot 3 rockets to a minisentry and the second rocket just did not make it to the target. I think it started after having this huge lag spike of 5-10 seconds. Everybody was like "whoah" and then it was pretty much unplayable for 5-10(?) minutes or so until I changed the server. I've experienced that kind of lag sometimes before, but the pings have gone up and it has been followed by a server crash. Now the pings were ok, I think. |
