Post subject:  Client-side file creation issue? - DBlocker?

After playing on HH1 earlier I attempted to connect to a Reddit server (no restart, same game session), only to be automatically disconnected for this reason:

Code:
Disconnect: Pure server: client has loaded extra file [GAME]\bin\client.dll. File must be removed to play on this server..

A little homework suggested that DBlocker, the plugin you're using to whitelist weapons (right?) is creating the file client-side (as it should, I imagine), meaning that slightly more "strict" servers, such as Reddit kick you.

Assuming this is the case, it might be save a few headaches if people were notified ahead of time that this was a possibility - many of us might be perfectly happy to tweak/delete a few files to play the game, but there could be just as many who would be completetly puzzled by such an error.

I split this out into a new topic as it is nothing to do with Vanilla Classic mode, and DBlocker does not have the ability to do anything in relation to items.

DBlocker is running on the HH1, as of a few hours ago. I wasn't aware of any client-side file creation issues or that DBlocker did this. I haven't been able to find any mention of this on the DBlocker forum. Was a particular file name mentioned in the connection failure message? Could you provide a link to what you have read?

This was the thread http://dblocker.didrole.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=19

it's a little speculative, but there wasn't a huge amount of literature on the topic (with that particular error, at least).

The file was client.dll, as mentioned above
Code:
[GAME]\bin\client.dll

I just carried out a fresh install of Steam & TF2. HH1 was the first server I joined, Reddit was the 2nd server.

Perhaps it's a coincidence, but my friend, Cokie, encountered exactly the same problem at exactly the same time.

Thank you.

Quoting the author.

Once you have joined a server with DBlocker you can't join an other server with sv_pure 1 / 2 (and without DBlocker) without restarting the game, you will be kicked by the other server for the config.cfg.

Sadly there is nothing I can do, sv_pure is flawed on the client, I've notified Valve in January about this problem.

This problem is not specific to DBlocker and can be triggered easily with a server using a custom whitelist.

Despite it's great features I think this might be cause to remove it again until the problem is resolved.

DBlocker definitely isn't altering client side files though. It's just for the duration that TF2 is running after visiting any TF2 server running DBlocker.

Yeah, I figured that was case, which is why I mentioned I hadn't restarted the game.

Really, I just wanted to draw attention to a possible issue.

Thanks frog.

I'm glad you did. I've removed it's vdf file, so DBlocker won't be enabled when all the servers restart at 5am. It's shame because I'm sure most people would prefer it to be running.

Worth enabling with some kind of server join message?

I was wondering about this. Whether it's a MOTD message or an in-game Server Manager message people aren't going to know until the change has already been made. That in itself isn't ideal, but assuming people know what it's doing, and that their gameplay experience is "safer" for it, then they should be understanding.

hench this sort of thing with files and joining servers is happening with different files appearing in the message too.
