But......
Which class do I pick?

What you do.
Vote for a class, maybe post with reasons why and maybe some hints and tips.

What I do.
I'll use the class most voted for every time I play TF2 and only that class, with exceptions such as the ETF2L Highlander matches (speaking of which, when do those start up again? I joined late on and only played one match).

What you win.
Nothing.
Who said anything about prizes?

Doing this because I need to practice and I might find using one class all the time to work for me. It also came to mind during the last three days when doing the Birthday thing and realizing how awful I am unless I play Medic :P

Medic is not in the choices because I play Medic enough due to being bad at everything else. Trust me, it gets boring playing the same class for 3 years.

Go for sniper. It's really satisfying to get a good clean headshot.

I can't vote for just one class.

I suggest you pick soldier, sniper or scout. Because in my opinion they are the classes that need the most skill. I also like them the most. And the skills you learn from playing them, you can easily transfer them to other fps games. Maybe it's because they are more "traditional" classes.
The easiest to pick up would be the soldier I guess. He's not too hard to play but it's hard to master him (airshots etc).
Scout is pretty hard in my opinion because of how low health you have and how close to the enemy you have to be to damage them. Now this might not be that big of a problem in 6v6 but on a full server it's pure hell. I never got good as a scout, died way too often.
Sniper will be hell in the beginning because you have to counter-snipe other snipers that have years of practice. But once you get better it's a lot of fun to headshot someone and then taunt :)

But if I were you I would just play all the classes a bit and then after a while stick to the one you like the most. That's how I did it when I started to play TF2.

This is what I've been doing for most of my time with this game.
You can tell the results can't ya? :P

Also I've enabled everyone to make multiple votes since Zerged mentioned it.
Although I'd have preferred a more definite answer.

So far, Sniper seems to be the way to go (or the one with the most votes in any case)
It maybe help my aiming in general too since I tend to jerk around a bit when using a weapon without continuous fire (like Heavy). Not sure why. Maybe I'm getting ready to make another move (like dodging or running away).

Oh, and maybe some hints on items to use too if you like.
Forgot to mention that.

I've just been thinking that maybe I'd do better focusing on a single thing is all.

I say go for spy, and don't use the dead ringer either. Using other watches will be harder but will make learning the class more satisfying. It also gives you a view of the game that no other class gets, lets you see where the good players locate themselves during a map and when you become good at it, you become annoying as hell.

After that I'd move on to solly, the bread and butter of any tf2 team.

Well normally it is otherwise, you pick spy last when you have some experience with other classes and know their behavior. But if you go for a spy then stock items are the best way to learn (you can add spycicle here due to many hh members having good headphones :)).

My first pick would be soldier and then scout.

You guys aren't making this easy are ya? :P

Sniper seems an interesting choice though.
I'll wait a bit longer and see what others have to say.

Yeah you make a good point ton. That said, I'm guessing Deepblue has put in enough playtime now to know the other classes behaviour patterns, maybe not though.

I've put in enough playtime to know I won't get any better by randomly playing each class, I know that. :P

Looks like it's either Spy or Pyro now. Hmmm...

Whenever I'd try a new class, I'd be surprised at how good I'd be at them.
But then that would disappear when I realize that it was fluke and I'm not actually that good. :?
