His claims over it's duration seem a little off to me, but I can't factually dispute it.

Dazed and Zerged have always been a law unto themselves, it wasn't until recently that their habits began to spread to others - this has already been mentioned in the thread, so I'll assume you just weren't paying attention because of all your laughing.

Uh, Harley I think you've missed the point of this thread a bit there.

Just as part of my 2 cents, I recommend we bring up more suggestions on something we can compromise on rather than digressing.

I don't like when people use voice overs like thanks or nice shot after I've missed a couple shots and get killed. I think this can be very off putting to new people to the server so you should definitely look at disabling voice over lines too.

Hench, I'm a bit mystified as to what you're after anymore, could you explain more directly what is your concern at the moment?

Henchling wants Zerged and co to stop taunting players on the server so constantly, i.e. only regularly taunt players that they know are happy with it. He believes that this constant taunting hurts the atmosphere of the server and makes new players feel excluded.

I can loosely vouch for that for what its worth. Haven't really played TF2 for over a year but I am very familiar with the Dazed and Zerged kill cam taunts. For the sake of irrelevance I will keep my opinions about snipers to myself.

I'm on nobodies side but the problem here seems to be about attitude not taunts. The servers should be friendly, as they always have been in my experience. This is easy, play nice and be cool, or if thats a bit tricky for you like it is for me then just be quiet.

I wasn't aware that my goals had changed Blinx, but to answer you directly, I guess it all boils down to this quote from Dazed:

"Me, Zerged and others have taunted almost every kill for 3 years or more."

There's some debate over the specifics of this statement, but though I've been actively tolerant of both Dazed and Zerged over the past few years, as I see it, it wasn't until fairly recently (I took a break earlier in the year, and when I returned it seemed to be gaining popularity) that others decided to adopt this behaviour, forming a clique of sorts.

It's pretty easy to stomach a couple of people you don't care much for doing something mildly abrasive, but when it becomes a "thing", and others adopt it, then ignoring it becomes much more of an issue. At least for me.

As I've said all along, I don't mind people taunting. Taunting has its place, in moderation.

That said, these guys (by their own admission) do it all the time to everyone, and that is something I find, well, kinda obnoxious.

Plus, in my mind, I don't see how it's normal, acceptable behaviour for anyone (whether it's in a public Valve server or a clan server that takes pride in teamwork and good competition, like HH), let alone a positive experience for someone unfamiliar to the server.

As Mehby posted earlier (though his intent was likely different to mine), the definition of taunt is:

"provoke or challenge (someone) with insulting remarks" - the remark in this case being a character animation.

I've acknowledged that the majority of their taunts likely don't hold any malice, but you have to do work to get beyond the innate meaning of such an action, which in their minds has been twisted into some kind of positive, fun gesture. Sadly, I haven't reached this point.

Ideally, I'd like them to only taunt people who they know, for sure, are down for their type of fun.

I've never suggested that they should be admonished or punished for their actions.

Dazed has made it clear he's never going to stop taunting, and in pretty dramatic fashion too. I don't think I'll change his mind, but that's OK. Nothing to get angry about.

I started this thread to discuss the matter. Many people have willfully misinterpreted its intent and what I've written. I expected this, to an extent. I don't mind, these things happen, and people will form whatever opinions they like. Others (admittedly, fewer) have been supportive, which is reassuring, but I've just enjoyed the discussion.

I'm not sure where it will go. At this point I feel like I'm just replying to comments posted with good and bad intent.

I use caber/sticky jumper combo all the time so what does that make me? I also taunt after successful cabering if i can. So i guess i am troll^2. Regarding the usefulness of caber/sticky jumper rocket jumper/market gardener. Caber combo is great on any open map, gardener combo is mostly useless since you can only hit one person at the time and your secondary is a shotgun/mantreads which sucks compared to pipe launcher.

I would also like to respond to the claim that taunting discourages people from coming back on server. Its nonsense really otherwise i would not have to wait half an hour to get on the server to be humiliated by taunting huntsman sniper. Since i had started playing this game i always prefered servers where people use voice chat and are not always super serious about winning and tryharding all the time. Taunting is part of the HH experience and i would be sad if it should go away because of one person who cannot stand it.

If i taunt and/or caber you, you will have to deal with it cause i cannot look at the killfeed constantly to check if i am not hurting someone's feelings.
