Server with memorable players - 'that game was fun. These people seem fun, and they were here last time I played. I'll add the server to favourites so I can play with the same people next time'.

Yes that sounds a bit hokey. But seeing people that I remembered the second time I played on the server is exactly why I joined HH back in 2008. Now with Valve putting in QP it's harder to find communities with regulars, and so the value of having that is greater.
Personally, I think that the number one factor that makes people come back to a server is friendly people using voice comms, and then way, way, way, waaaaaay, down the list is the green haired people that taunt you every time you die. (Have you seen those guys? No, really, no really, you've got to check them out, they have like green hair and they TAUNT YOU! EVERY SINGLE F'ING TIME! I know, it's da bomb!)

iRPAx, given that the question you were asked was "So you guys don't think that there is a clique of people doing a particular type of regimented taunting behaviour then?", and the issue you've cited was "whether any action should be taken on this subject", I think it's fair to say we're talking about different things.

Put your scientific method back in your pants :)

No, we are not. The point is still whether that behaviour is damaging the server, and that is the purpose of my posts from beginning to end.

Wires are being crossed here. I'm trying to be nice.

Let's forget this tiny, inconseqeuential issue.

I agree it's a small issue, I'm saying that the number of people who quit because 2 out of 15 times that they were killed some random guy taunted at them is probably equally small, or not much greater than, and so it seems not worth your time and the potential issues (some taunts have gameplay purpose, weaps added in future will have taunts that serve gameplay purpose, code would presumably need to be updated each time) to make the plugin.

Taunt-kills (e.g. huntsman), demo-cabers and all sorts of other bollocks probably makes people ragequit too. How much stuff can be bolted onto this plugin just in case it has an effect?

Personally, Zerged's taunting gives me a worrying amount of pleasure. And I hadn't even considered his green hat until the other day. Oh man!

This might be very hard to believe, but I have heard from one person who spoke positively about the servers and cited Zerged and people like him as a reason they come back.

I think if I reach really far into my hat I might be able to find an anecdote that provides me with confirmation bias too :)

Post Re: Taunting
The only problem I personally have with people taunting, is what was brought up in this thread before: it seems the people running around taunting all day aren't playing the same game I am playing. They are playing "Running Around On Whatever Map Happens To Be On And Doing What I Please: The Interactive Past-Time"®. I am playing Team Fortress 2, or at least I try to.

Personally, I don't find it fun to get taunted (How is that fun? Who even has killcams enabled?!), but I also don't mind it. I do mind people being useless to the team, still playing with as little focus on objectives as we all were 5 years ago and playing selfishly.

Now, with this usually being the cue for the grand entrance of the "It's a game! People play it for fun, have you heard of it?"-party, let me say that I understand people play on our servers for very different reasons, and one of them is to just goof off and have a laugh with their mates- and only a complete mong would have anything negative to say about this. That said, here, as in all questions of life, "the right dose differentiates a poison from a remedy".

While the above certainly is one demographic of players on our servers, people who play games understanding that there is such a thing as teamwork among strangers (after several years of playing the same game, at least) are another demographic. I started playing on HH for the high density of competent players who could still have a laugh with each other, not because I enjoy clowning around (that's what taunting every single, incredibly unremarkable kill is) while other people on my team are trying to accomplish something. Sadly, that seems to be what pub-TF2 is mostly about these days.

Disclaimer:
I like/am indifferent about everyone mentioned negatively in this thread and don't wish to give personal offense, I am just trying to give weight to henchling's argument that the persistence of something like this can be really poisonous to someone's enjoyment of the game. I am not trying to insinuate that the players taunting others are also the same players who do all the negative things mentioned above (some of them definitely aren't)- I was mulling things together, simply because they fit the same category in my drawer of emotions. :D Thanks, carry on.

They can be turned off? That could solve henchling's particular problem.

Sam,

I made a joke in reply to something you wrote and assumed even you thought was pretty silly (in context), and you've used it to be kind of an a**hole...for the second time in this thread.

Makes me wonder whose side you're on here ;)

I was about to ask about the Killcam comment Fluffy made too. It hadn't occurred to me that this would be an option.

If so, I'd happily use it.

Oh okay, I took that completely the wrong way. Sorry.

Try these commands, found them for CSGO:

cl_disablefreezecam 1
cl_freezecampanel_position_dynamic 0
