Bought it a couple days ago in the origin sale and no idea how to play, any tips/tricks will be appreciated

All schools are the same, you don't need elementary and high so just build high.

Transit doesn't work, don't get too hung up on it. Neither does the inter-city stuff.

Other than that it's very pretty and quite fun for the first 20 hours to watch things spring up, so have fun.
