You remember those games you love to play, yet find you're one of the few who does? Those games that could be called cult, if it weren't for the fact that they weren't popular enough to be called even that.
I have many, mostly from the Playstation, but perhaps my #1 is Future Cop L.A.P.D.
It was born of the Strike series, but whereas they had helicopters and jets, this had a bloody great mech armed to the teeth. Plus it could transform into a hover car. It was released in 1998, so if anyone cared it would be celebrating it's 10th birthday this year. It was also a time when when EA went by their full moniker and weren't the denziens of gaming evil that they are today, actually making great games.
It wasn't complicated or incredibly pretty (highly detailed with a good gritty look however), and only had 8 missions and one multiplayer mode, but damn was it fun.
How could you not love a game with this on the cover?
The PC version demo is still around, so if you want to see want I'm on about, get your arse over to here
If a game needs reviving, it's this one. Christ, it could look fantastic and satisfy my need to blow loads of things up.
I love those games by Introversion Software. Uplink, Darwinia, Defcon etc. The retro stylings combined with unusual gameplay mechanics draw me in. Defcon is one of the scariest games I've played but not for the usual reasons like zombies jumping out at you etc.
Its an online RTS game in which you simulate a global nuclear war (much like in the movie Wargames) but the sounds and atmosphere, like the dark synth music combined with the echoing sobs of the dieing masses and incredible dull bass booms as the nukes hit their targets during play make it truly frightening in a "what if...?" kind of way. "Winning" the game is not about who will win at all, but about who can die the least during the M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction) BRRRRRR!
Darwinia is another RTS only this time it's single player (Multiwinia is in development) and sees you defending the Darwinians who are a race of beings that exist inside your PC Tron stylee.
These games are relatively unknown and definately "cult"
Barbarian! I think I posted this somewhere before. If you think the cover picture above is great, clap your eyes on this bad boy
Great game, albeit it a little one dimensional. The bit where I first saw the little goblin would come on to drag your foe's headless body off to the side, and casually boot the head was a priceless moment.
For those like me that are still adolescent at heart, the girl on the front is Maria Whittaker, of Page 3 fame in the late 80's! Maria Whittaker FTW!

seen defcon and played altered beast. heres a challenge to the obscure people. There was an arcade game where you drive in a car and shoot at ppl its 2 playerable (second player just shoots) I think the name was something along the lines of lucky and something.
