Crysis... a great singleplayer experience?
I hated Crysis so much for not running well. I really did.
I'd been looking forward to the game for a while and for the first time in years bought a full system with the intentions of thrashing the pants off Crysis. Boy was I dissapointed.
While the game seems to run great on some dual core systems with a single GTS and 2gb; some machines (mine) will struggle even with four cores and two gpus.... damn game.
But anyway, after biting my tongue, installing new memory and running the game under XP in DX9 I've relaxed into the game a bit. It still looks pretty, damn pretty, and the main thing is it runs ok. It also plays pretty damn nicely.
Well it plays like Far Cry, with special powers and aliens; but the intial sandbox element becomes great fun, Even if it's over too quickly. Dying and replaying a section actually becomes quite interesting, blasting your way through one time and stealthing effectively another. The maps allow quite a bit of freedom, although it's a shame they didnt include more optional side-missions to use the space.
In all honesty I've not finished the game yet, I'm guessing I'm 3/4 of the way through, maybe more. I almost dont want to finish it, I just want to replay the initial freestyle levels on hard!
I'm not keen on the floaty alien bit, granted It's actually quite pretty but there's not much to it. Some might say that about the whole game, I say the first section's well worth a play.
That is, if you fancy the technical minelfield that is running the damn thing!
