After deciding to re-install Far Cry to play this mod, I came across a few hic-ups to which I found solutions so I thought I should share them with you. First of all there is the latest patch. All of the patches can be found here: http://www.fileshack.com/browse.x?cat=2160
The problem I had was that the patch (v1.4) would not install due to me having incorrectly un-installed a previous one and gave me a "fatal error" It seems that this is a common problem which can be solved using Microsofts Install Clean-up Utility which you can find here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301
Simply use it to delete any leftover references to Far Cry patches. Once that was done the patch installed flawlessly.
There are quite a lot of issues surrounding installing and patching Far Cry and the solutions to the most common can be found here in this excellent post.
Now, back to that page with the patch links. As well as the patches there are a couple of files that add content to the game for owners of 64bit CPU's AND 64bit Operating Systems. These basically add extra visual umph to the game along with a couple of new MP maps. Do not try to install them on a 32bit system.
Good news if you do have 32bit like me though (I have 64bit CPU and 32bit OS) because some bright spark made a 32bit version of the content update so all of that lovely bump-mapping can be yours too! Find it here:
Next up was the annoying fact the after the latest patch, the devs inadvertantly put a few new bugs INTO the game such as AI being able to see through walls and in many cases shoot through them too along with other annoying stuff. A solution to these can be found in this un-official 1.41 patch: http://farcry.filefront.com/file/Unoffi ... _141;78338
Now another thing I wanted was HDR rendering, which cannot be enabled in the normal options menu so try this instead
Look for r_HDRRendering in the Far Cry.ini and select the level of HDR you require between 0-11. 0=Off, 1-11=Level of Glare. I found 4 to be about the best looking. Be sure to make a backup of the .ini before you try this.
Last of all, I wanted to enable TRUE widesreen on my 16:10 monitor. The game supports many resolutions including widescreen ones. However, the widescreen resolutions do NOT increase the FOV (feild of view) they simply stretch it across the screen. A hack is required to enable a true widescreen fov as follows:
Open this file with winrar or whataver archiving program you use:
Far Cry\FCData\Scripts.pak
Then open this file with a text editor:
Scripts.pak\Scripts\Default\Hud\ZoomView.lua
Change the 90 in the follwing line to the FOV you want, I find that 112 is very close to the correct FOV for the game:
NoZoom = 90 * 3.1415962 / 180,
Now when you enter the game you will have to zoom once and when you come out of the zoom, the FOV will set the the above value.
After all that I installed the mod and it works fine and looks the bolx too. As a single level beta it is fantastic, with a large, free roaming area to explore. There are a few errors, such as the odd bad texture here and there, leaves falling through rooftops, and texture glitches when under water but nothing major. It may even be that those errors are a result of my tweaking.
All in all though it actually looks and runs BETTER than Crysis did on my rig. I could not get the desired level of graphics on my rig without the game becoming a slideshow but now this Delta Sector mod for Far Cry lets me have great grahics AND smooth gameplay. So big-ups to the mods devs and to you Spiderbloke for finding this little gem.
I gave the Far Cry demo a go, and I thought people were exaggerating about the need to quick save/load constantly, and the uncanny ability of you enemies to see you through walls.
Actually they weren't. I didnt even get past the first 2 mins.
I'm not ashamed to admit it, this games way too difficult and frustrating for me.

The seeing thru walls thing is a bug. And it's not just limited to walls. They can see thru everything until you fix the game as I described above. Still, like you say, a rock hard game tho. Easy mode is more like "Normal". I would say the game is definately up there and able to hold it's own against the likes of HL2 even after all this time.
You can get Far Cry for about £5 including p+p from Amazon . I'm not sure if this mod would work with the free (ad enabled) version
I looked into getting the free version, turns out Ubisoft disabled the offer because non-us citizens were taking advantage of it. Don't know why they just don't release a version with international ads for coca cola or something.
