Has anyone else tried this one out? I've just gotten out of the "tutorial" bit and I've been running around a little, it seems fun but it also seems abit overwhelming the way they just open everything up at once when you're outside.
Got a lot of blood, murder, cruelty, foul language and pornographic content. It's the dark ages as they should be! (Really foul language btw - Lots of f**k, c**t etc. mixed with medieval language style... I love it, but all may not)
I love the world - it's kind of Dungeon of Dragons, except this is later, and the humans are actively murdering the elves, dwarves etc. (The gnomes are long extinct by now) It's about racial conflict, hate, deceit and war - and you're right in the middle of it! A magic being from before the new age, hated but still needed by both the victorious humans and the few elves and dwarves who still fight for their right to exist. (And it's the rise of a religion similar to Christianity, with its followers of knights and other humans in power) And its about you - who are you? You build your own legacy through your actions: Is coin more important than people, is it possible to be neutral, is monsters the only monsters etc.
I think the combat is a bit lacking though - You basically only use two weapons in the whole game, a silver and an ordinary steel sword. The silver for fighting monsters, and the ordinary for fighting humanoids. Each has tree combat styles, that you must use according to the opponents weaknesses and the amount of opponents. There is also some basic magic to support your sword fighting - its not like you can become a mage, but you can still put things on fire. However the fighting is good in its lethality - its quick and utterly bloody. You can die in 5 seconds, or win in 5 seconds, depending on who is the best. (You gotta prepare with potions, proper enchantments etc. for the encounters, else you're gonna get sliced and diced) There is of course a large skill tree, with probably a hundred feats you can invest experience in as you progress, and some who can only be earned through actions. By killing a very powerfull monster you may gain some of its abilities etc., but killing these have moral issues some of the times. (Is some monsters more monstrous than those they kill?)
The game is a bit too long perhaps though - i lost interest in it in the last chapter, having played it for over two weeks. On the other hand... You really get something for your money!
Btw why pay for prostitutes. Just slay the perverts rapping and killing them in the dark alleys, and be rewarded with free sex Yay. It pays to be "good" hehe.

Re: The Witcher
How is the combat? i heard they had quite a fancy system for some combo moves etc that sounded interesting. Also impressed at the use of the Neverwinter nights 2 engine- it can be a pretty engine when it needs to be.
Im thinking theres prob not a demo i can get my hands on cos of the style of game... but will check this out at some point.

It's not much really. You can go into 3 combat styles, Strong for Armored opponents, Agile for fast opponents and Group for some Area of Effect moves against weaker units. The combo system is pretty basic. You just have to click again when your cursor turns into a little flaming sword, and you need to time it right. It didn't really impress me, I would have preferred something in the lines of Dark Messiah fighting.
Played the demo and hated it. Are there customisable controls in the full game? The demo had none I could find. The default view was awful and the "over-the-shoulder" option felt like an afterthought. As for the acting, AI and the way enemies react during combat, well, it was just the pits imo. Gfx were ok but nothing to shout about. Pretty obviously designed for consoles and just ported to PC with no thought for how PC gamers like to play.
