Steam games NOT for the UK
Today I have managed to get hacked off with the news that Far Cry 2 will not be available on Steam in the UK.
I don't know what others think about this, but I really find it more convenient to purchase games on Steam now, and was disappointed to hear this news.
Ubisoft is my current enemy in this case, but there are others, and I'm not really sure what their problem is with regard availabilty.
Whilst I prefer buying my games on a disc (the feel of the freshly torn plastic wrap, the scent of the manual as you open it for the first time, the.. well you get the point), I don't agree with this.
So much for the global village. It seems other parts of the village get a higher priority.
Might have cystitis, Spiderbloke

Re: Steam games NOT for the UK
Like you say, I used to enjoy shiny new wrappings from the games. However once publishers couldn't be bothered to make an effort with the contents of the package, I tended to care less myself.
I have sadly played games long enough to remember getting the real deal with your game purchase, with all manner of free gifts and things. The only way you get them now is to pay extra for so-called "collectors editions".
Also with me making the habit of re-installing windows on an unnecessary basis, I can't be bothered with fiddling with CD/DVD to re-install games, what with broadband being so quick to download the games in the background.

Can't agree more. I like buying games from steam. It's so much easier. Don't need to go to the store or install from the disc. The thing I don't like is that if you want to play a game when you don't have a connection available you can't play at all.
And when you buy a game from steam you don't practically own them. If/when Steam is terminated, you will lose all your precious games.

I dunno about you, but it usually takes me longer to dl than to install from a disk.
And the last "free gift" I got with a game was a making of DVD with the first PAL production run of Metal Gear Solid 2. Unless you count the piss poor double sided poster that came with CnC The First Decade. I don't.
I think downloading games from Steam is great and all, but I only have some much Hard drive space. It doesnt't help my computer is gettting slower and slower. I find myself buying older, not so big games on Steam
