Why the hell should a game tell me what I should be running it at.

Hell, most of the time with a bit of extreme tweaking you can get away with stuff that you shouldn't be able to according to the box.

To be honest it looks OK even at LOW textures, which makes me more annoyed that I can't run it any higher.

It could be smoother though, especially considering you have a 256mb GPU.

I can run Fallout at 1680 with AA and it runs smooth as butter with a bit of INI tweaking, and I've got a 256mb 8600GTS.
