Things are a lot easier and safer than that these days. They have whole custom firmwares geared toward homebrew that are pretty easy to install.

The installation is a bit different depending on which model of psp you have. I hear the slims are a little more difficult to do than the old ones. (Mine is a day one psp, only console I bought on the day of release!) If anyone wants to know how to hack it open, just pm me your model and firmware number and I'll get some instructions together.

The game I am enjoying most right now on the PSP is Patapon. It combines a gender I usually don't like (music games) with strategy.
