What? Dystopia is a cyberpunk themed mod for Half Life 2 created by Team Dystopia.
The setting
Wikipedia about cyberpunk
Quote:
Cyberpunk (a portmanteau of cybernetics and punk) is a sub-genre of science fiction which focuses on computers or information technology. The plot of cyberpunk literature often revolves around the conflict between hackers, artificial intelligences, and megacorps. It is the result of a self-correction in the science fiction genre, which classically had ignored the importance of information technology.
So in short: our current technology level+1000 plus Big corporations(microsoft ) and add politics and a little degradation of civilization to the mix, stir and you have cyberpunk setting.
The game itself The main part of the game is objective based assault style levels where the "punks" (rebels, resistance, whatever) have to destroy, disable or hack something form the defending "corp" (the mean big guys).
To achieve these objectives you have to physically destroy the objective or hack the objective. The destroying part is just a simple action of point and shoot, but the hacking part is a whole different story.
Hacking Hacking needs a special character upgrade(will talk about those later) and a terminal. As soon as you enter the digital plane and leave your meatshell behind (and hope your team-mates protect it) you will see a mental representation of the software you are in. (different corps mean different software architectures) Here you have to navigate through data streams and firewalls to get to one of your objectives. There are certain choke points or special points where the enemy can put protection or encryption barriers to hold you off while they (digitally)shoot at you and try to flush you out the system. These barriers can be hacked with hacking tools you are equipped with but it costs time and power.
This effectively means that there are two battlefronts, namely digital and physical.
Classes ,Weapons and Upgrades
Classes Every side has three classes:Light,Medium and Heavy. These augmentation levels vary in body size, movement speed, levels of health , armour and the number of implant slots available. For example, lightly augmented players have more head implant slots, while the heavily augmented players have extra body implant slots. Lights have low armour and health, but make up for it in speed and are the only ones capable of using stealth. Have the weakest melee attack of all the classes and are given EMP grenade in their grenade slot which disable enemy implants (useful for disabling people in cyber, stopping stealth and thermal vision etc.) Mediums are very...average. Great support class, usually the ones fitted with med packs and tac scanners etc. Grenade Launchers and Tesla guns make them great at holding choke points. Have frag grenades in their grenade slot. Heavies are slow but well armoured and have the most health. Unable to fit most implants, they usually field Thermal Vision to deal with stealthers and Leg Boosters to combat their slow speed. Have strongest melee attack. Has 2 Spider Mines in their grenade slot which when deployed run along the floor towards enemies and explode on impact.
Weapons
* Laser Sniper Rifle Name says it, nothing to add. * Boltgun clipsize of 3 bolts which electrically discharge after a period of time or after the secondary fire button is pressed. * Shotgun Close combat weapon Primary:BAM Secondary:BAM BAM wait * Smartlock Pistols Primary fire is just regular pistol fire The secondary fire embeds two smartlock rounds on which the primary fire locks. * Assault Rifle Primary Fire. Automatic fire, rate of fire increases the longer you fire for. Secondary. Zoom, changes primary fire to an accurate 3 round burst. * Grenade Launcher Primary Fire. Fire grenades, explode after a couple of seconds. Secondary. Detonates primary fire grenades early. * MK808 Semi Auto Rifle Primary Fire. Single Accurate shot Secondary. Zoom * Tesla Gun Primary fires a limited electrical beam Secondary creates an electrical orb which you swing away, and it slowly discharges damaging everybody near the orb(it floats). * Ion Cannon Primary:One single beam with more damage the closer Sec: Zoom with mousewheel * Rocket Launcher Primary: Rocket flies towards the cross-hair Secondary:Fly by wire mode(you can control the rocket with your movement keys) * Minigun Primary:Spin up and fire Secondary:Spin up * Basilisk Primary Fire. As expected. Secondary Fires a frag grenade that detonates on impact (similar to flak cannon in UT)
The Laser Rifle, Smartlocks and Shotgun are limited to the light class. The Assault Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Mk108 and Tesla Gun are limited to the Mediums, and the Minigun, Rocket, Ion and Basilisk are limited to the Heavy. All classes have a machine pistol, a melee weapon and a grenade slot.
Implants Implants are special upgrades you can add to your character fitting to your planned actions. Active implants however cost power while being used.
* Cortex Bomb After Health drops below 25 you'll get a friendly goodbye and explode taking enemy's with you. * CyberDeck Needed to hack. * Advanced CyberDeck Gives you more advanced hacktools/encriptors * Sound Wave Triangulator Shows enemy's to your based on the sound they make(you can see them through thin walls and such) * TAC Scanner A ping which updates your team 's map with the current enemy locations * Thermal Vision Detects body heat, counters stealth implant. * Leg Boosters Allows the user to jump higher * MediPlant Heals you and your teammates around you. * Superconductor Capacitor Storage You are able to store more power for your active implants * Sound Suppressor Makes your movements completely silent and counters Sound Wave Triangulator * Stealth Suit Makes you completely invisible * Wired Reflexes Makes you reload faster and hit harder in katana or melee combat. * IFF Info Shows info on your enemy's and friends * Cold Suit Counters the thermal vision
I certanly enjoyed this mod and think it is really good I'd give it a 8.5/10
*added Kiss Kiss*

A little more info on classes. Assault Rifle, Clip of 40. Primary Fire. Automatic fire, rate of fire increases the longer you fire for. Secondary. Zoom, changes primary fire to an accurate 3 round burst.
Nade Launcher, Primary Fire. Fire grenades, explode after a couple of seconds. Secondary. Detonates primary fire grenades early.
Mk108, clip of 8. Simple rifle. Primary Fire. Single Accurate shot Secondary. Zoom
Basilisk. Automatic Shotgun. Primary Fire.
A few other things that are worth knowing. Respawn time is based on the number of people dead. If another member of your team dies the respawn time is increased. Heavies increase the respawn timer the most, lights the least, so having a lot of heavies on a team is generally a bad idea because if you lose a few all at once it'll be ages before you can get stuck in again. You have Arnour and Health in Dystopia. Health can be replenished only by using the medikit implant, armour cannot be replenished. You lose armour before you lose health, and explosives deal additional damage to armour. Its therefore a good idea to have a team with balanced weapons, ones to reduce armour and the others to pick off damaged individuals. Lastly....on your first play I suggest sticking to a medium class using either the Assault Rifle or Mk108. As for implants I'd go for Tac Scan, Medi Implant, IFF info and either The capacitor booster implant or the wired relfexes implant. This allows you to determine where the enemy is, what implants they are using, how much health and armour they have and this is all information your teammates will see as well. The medikit makes it easier to stay alive, and allows you to support your teammates. You can never really have too many medikits or tac scans. Once your more comfortable with the way the game works you can go crazy, although I would veer away from the cortex bomb
woah, I wrote an essay. I actually really like this mod. I think it rivals TF2 in the class shooter stakes, but it just lacks the community and the money to properly support it and iron out some of the issues. Gogo play.
