A great reason to play Half Life 2 all over again.
FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod Version 6
Basically, this is a complete graphical overhaul of HL2 including episodes 1 and 2. As well as new hi-res textures for everything, there are new NPC models and hi-res skins for them. Add to that new sound effects, assets which were cut from the original release (remember that Abyss style "water snake" thing from the trailers?) and brilliantly understated cinematic music and you have a truly great mod. Although it was designed and tested for 64bit OS, it runs perfectly on my 32bit XP, 2gb ram, GeForce 8 512mb with all graphics options set to max and 4x anti-aliasing @1680x1050. There is also a "character pimper" with which you can view and easily change the ingame character models to suit your taste.
The download is quite large at nearly 2gb and comes in 4 parts plus a small patch.
1. Dowload all files and place them together in one folder.
2. Unpack the file (that ends with .001) using 7zip. This will unpack all files 001 to 004 to one new folder.
3. Open the unpacked folder and start the setup.exe inside.
The "read-me or get in trouble" files states not to unpack the zip-files inside the subfolder INSTALLFILES. Just start the setup.exe it will do all work for you.
After installing these 4 parts, apply this small update.
Due to the way Steam handles HL2, the Cinematic Mod MUST be started from your Start menu NOT from Steam. You should have steam running though before you launch the mod.

Enjoy!

all I can say is WOW!
being the graphics whore that i am it looks just my kind of thing. Alyx looks a bit different tho- a little more like Angelina Jolie!

Simply amazing Must have taken him a bloody long time.
Bit surprised at why he used a new (and be honest, practically unheard of) file compressor. Ok, so it might achieve better results, but I've never heard of it till now, and nowhere on the dl site is it mentioned. It's going to leave a fair few people confused.
Other than that, I applaud him.
