Now I've rendered some space from the second hard drive I decided to put the DoW series back on. And because I have plenty of said space, I can try out a few more mods. One of the most accomplished is the Inquisition Daemonhunt mod. It has a fully realised new race (the Ordo Malleus) to add to DC. No place holders, no duff animations, it's all done and effectively dusted and on par with the quailty of Relics originals. That is until Soulstorm where the mod leader wants to add some air units. And the new music is brilliant too. So much so I dl'd the music when they gave the opportunity. Another is Dawn of Steel. This adds the Imperial Guard Steel Legion as a race. Not as visually impressive as ID with some bland buildings, but certainly a fully realised accomplishment. While not terribly useful, the horseback cavalry are well done. And whilst not finished, the Tyranid mod is a must have, just so you can fight them. Relic has no intention of producing them in this engine, believing that it wouldnt do the tyranids justice. So it's up to the modders. I mention these, because the head developer of the ID mod created a mod combiner for these and 2 other mods. It was possible to play them combined before, but it involved messing about with various files. This simple implement allows you to play them all together without that problem, and without any apparent conflicts. Another mod you should try is Light of the Warp. It doesnt add any new races, but enhances the ones that are already there. Except the Tau, who mistakenly loose the kroot. Should be fixed, but no idea when. Basically, the pop cap is upped to 200 and soft caps are removed for both vehicles and infantry, and races get far more units of which most are from the tabletop version, and aesthetic changes have been made to the models. IG have masses of different tanks and infantry, Space Marines have more choice of infantry and light vehicles (eg scout bikes, Land Speeders act in squads, venerable Dreadnoughts, heavy weapon teams) and have redesigned power armour that makes it more like the "fluff". Eldar get more infantry choices. Chaos get doctrines to choose, which determines which units you can use. Can't remember what Orks get, and Necrons, not quite sure. This doesnt use the mod combiner, as there would be conflicts. If you have Dark Crusade, try them all. They make a great series of games even better |
