Heheh plenty of Swords in there AJ... especially if you a Klingon :) Ship battles are much more fun than I thought and are almost Arcade-EVE! Not actually a bad thing.

I like some aspects of it alot... some not so much, but are luckily things that can be improved on.. it's by no means a bad mmo (Im just eyeing Star Wars in the distance :) )

Im only jus hitting lvl5 anyhow and only just feeling like im out of the tutorial really...

don't kno if I'd buy it.... especially if it's as close to release as ppl are saying; theres quite a bit still to be ironed out and there's been no mass-testing past lvl16.

Must be bloody orgasmic for Trekkies though! Especially fans of TNG onwards...

Played a bit of Beta earlier - was good fun. But I have no other MMO experience to compare it with >.<

Only issue so far: What is up with the scale of rooms in the starships? People are dwarfed by HUGE doors and massively high ceilings heh

Post Re: Star Trek Online
I decided I'd give it a go now it's F2P. It actually isn't that bad. Certainly not quite the grind of some other F2Ps I've tried. I wouldn't of paid money for it, but now I don't have to, it can be enjoyed for what it is.

It reaps the benefit of having substantial time behind it with plenty of episodic content for the Federation, standard money is fairly easy to accrue, and the dilithium currency can be exchanged for the item shop Cryptic Points. Even that isn't as hard to come by as some F2Ps. I've been playing over the weekend and already gained about 4000 Dilithium. You need about 100,000 at the going rate for 400 CP (base cost of most stuff - even a few ships).
There's also the ability to replay many missions, so you can re-earn the rewards to use or sell. Crafting also, doesn't take vast amounts of resources or time.

The ground combat has 2 modes, traditional and a shooter style. You still use num keys for most actions, but your primary attacks use your mouse buttons, and you do the aiming.

I'm aware all this could change, but right now its not that bad.
