Ok ive been into the Mame emulator for a while now but have just come across this all-new version that actually allows the creation of servers so you can actually play all those classics with people across the globe!

Ive currently been playing alot of beat-em-ups and these seem to actually get pretty damn competitive online!

http://zerogen.rapidboards.com/index.php?showtopic=212 (link for new MAME- you would be fine with MAME32, but it doesnt run some games- i managed to get SF3 to run without dong half of the guide- just cant play online, YET!)

This is a link and (over complicated) tutorial to get the newest 'MAME-plus plus' emulator. It's really running through how to get it working online here so dont worry too much if u just want to practise offline- just copy any zipped rom to the roms directory. After downloading some zipped roms, go to the file menu at top and click 'audit all games'- make sure they are still zipped in the directory. Anything you've installed will then be checked and then listed ready for u to double click ad enjoy. http://www.Romnation.net will also have most arcade games u want in the mame category.

Upon entering the game hitting Tab will give u a setup screen to change your controls etc... i love the fact it's a direct arcade game and you actually have to hit '5' to enter coins etc.. if u remember the games from the arcades it will make u feel rich as hell! It's a great feeling loading something that used to gobble ur pocket money and just slamming as many 'coins' in as it will take!

So many other games besides beat-em-ups... but they've really grabbed me right now. Learning all the characters is so much fun. The Vampire series especially has some very crazy, tripped out characters.
Beat-em-ups im enjoying right now:
Xmen vs Streetfighter, Vampire Hunter games, Streetfighter 3 3rd strike, SF3 alpha, Marvel superheroes vs streetfighter, Marvel vs Capcom and a few more! Will happily give someone a match of Marvel vs Capcom anyday! Captain commando FTW! Also any good beat-em-ups pls let me know!

Soo many classic arcade games too... id totally forgot about the many many 10p's id fed into the 'Indiana Jones and temple of Doom' arcade game! Not to mention Double Dragon, Gauntlet, R-type, streets of Rage, Alien vs predator... the list goes on and on and on and on.....

ENJOY!

Ok looks like my love of beat-em-ups is a little overdue!

But I was wondering- What are other people's best Beat-em-ups? either 2 player fighters like Streetfighter, or scrolling beat-em's like Golden Axe... I need to know some more to satisfy my thirst for special moves and chunky cartoon characters!

My current top 5 fighters:

1. Marvel vs capcom- clash of the superheroes (still looking for sequel... but its cps2)
2. Marvel super heroes vs streetfighter
3. Streetfighter III 3rd strike (now works on Mame plus plus.. def supports CPS1, not sure about 2)
4.Vampire hunter 2: Darkstalkers revenge
5. Streetfighter 2 or Vampire: Night warriors

Top 5 Scrolling Beat-em-ups:

1. Alien Vs Predator (still great fun to play through)
2. The Crystal of Kings (old school ray tracing, kinda like donkey-kong country gfx, was amazing in its day)
3. Streets of Rage / golden axe etc
4. Knights of the Round and Golden axe 2+3
5. cap America and avengers / Robocop

The SNK ones are excellent.
King of Fighters 98 is widely considered the best of the series.

Last Blade 2 is an excellent samurai 1vs1 fighter. Kind of a spiritual sequel to Samurai Showdown, an earlier and also good samurai fighter.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is the final and best of the Fatal Fury series. Some consider it to be best of all 2d fighters.

As for scrolling beat em ups try Sengoku 3. Not 2 as I said earlier;)

Currently been wrestling with the Chankast and NullDC Dreamcast emulators so I can play Marvel v Cap 2 and SNK v Cap 2... poss the greatest beaters ever.

once ive got it properly sorted ill put up a tutorial as they are truly sublime beat-ems... character rosters have like 50 characters!!!!

my only problem with chankast is that when using the capcom hack option needed to up the framerate and make the game playable it actually makes the game a teeny bit too fast.

NullDC also is a bit of a bitch to get controllers working right.

Also, on both the emulators, there is a vauge outline of the 'blocks' that divide the sprites up. Just as if the sprites are divided into sections and there's a tiny residue of these against the (wonderful) 3d backgrounds.

I love the look of these games so much its safe to say i WILL get them working and will share my progress here. Anyone with any experience with the emu's will be greatly appreciated!
