How is BF3 going? Are you all active still, and if so how are you finding the game? I have heard good things about it and some kind colleague has just bought me a copy, so I am considering playing.
I find myself playing BF3 a hell of a lot, the community is rubbish, i mean really really childish.
Some weapons are blatantly OP and others are a waste of time, the maps are not like BF of old, way to cramped considering this is suppose to be 64 players. Helicopters are OP on everything but jets and javalins, a pro pilot will never get shot down and can ruin a game. Lag is really noticable, diving on the floor being in cover then dying a few seconds later. Iffy hit reg, the entire spotting and radar functionality is too CoDerinaised removing a hell of alot of fun that could be had. SPAM is rife, ammo and medpacks are nion impossible to coax out of team mates, in fact teamwork in general is a rare thing of beauty in this game. Hackers everywhere not even subtle ones they kill you with medpacks while your in a tank from across the map.
Chirst i better stop cause i could litterally write an in depth essay into everything wrong with it.
HOWEVER! i bloody love it and when i get time these days i find myself playing it. I can't figure out why because calling this a buggy PoS is an understatement.
It looks devine though, thats one of the few things going for it.
Forgot to mention that team stacking is stupidly common, a team full of rank 50's + vs teams of rank 2 - 20 is not uncommon, unfortunatly this is a problem that hits bf3 really hard and as a result finding a good server is a stroke of luck, try and find one with admins on it who deal with hackers if nothing else.
I litterally random servers everytime i play, i hit the go button and pick a server thats close to full but not 1 player out, if i join and the teams are stupidly 1 sided i leave straight away.
What i look out for when deciding if im gonna stay is. Open the tab and have a look at the overall ranks on both teams then have a look on the map at remaining tickets, rush stage, map domination and numbe of team mates not in squads, also check out class load outs too.
If any of the above look iffy then don't bother sticking around or you'll constantly loose and not have any fun in the process.
Can't disagree with that. Frustrating as anything, full of racist morons, self righteous arseholes, team stacking abound, sad sods who seem to do nothing but play the game all day, crappy bugs, net code all over the shop, and yet I keep playing it.
Btw if you just got a normal copy of the game, then you'll have to avoid servers running the Back to Karkand DLC, lest you be kicked off when in comes into rotation. £12 less a penny if you really want 4 maps and couple of unbalanced weapons.
I am enjoying it somewhat, but admit that the game has issues; no teamwork, spawn camping etc etc. Pretty much what you'd expect from a major release in this genre.
I also die very quickly sometimes which is sort of annoying, although again I suspect this is because I can't read the signs and just run into trouble way too often at present.
However, I can see that it's going to get a lot better when I know the maps, and maybe when I find a good server to play on. It's shame we don't run one actually as I am sure the game would be a lot more fun for us all if we knew you'd get solid teamwork on an HH server.
You can try the TacticalGamer servers Vickery (US based unfortunatly).
They run teamsync (an addon for TS3 that moves you into a channel for you squad automatically).
The best games I've had have been there, when there's 2 or 3 of you talking and working together.
Why Dice swerved the issue of adding squad voip is beyond me ***
*** after 20 years in IT I suspect it comes down to money, the netcode is bad enough but add adding voip into this would saturate the bandwidth and would have cost time and money to code a working solution. Ergo bin it, add some half arsed 3rd party voip app and then say this is what we wanted all along.
Makes no sense to me either, BF is a game around tactics and teamwork, what good is having a team that can't chat to one another (ironic considering i'm mostly a mute anyway).
If you're dying alot vick pick a gun to rank up and get to the silencer, you'll have a much easier time of it not being on the enemy radar every single time you pull the trigger.
I sware to god that was a stupid idea that basically forces me to pick the silencer on every single gun. If you have sound you'll be able to have a vague idea where an enemy is, you do not need to know their pinpoint location.
And of corse my other pet hate that seems to be the norm now, Am i hitting someone or not i can't tell? If only i had a Big X that popped up and told me to keep shooting around that area then i'd be laughting!
That combined with the radar just screams easy mode to me it's almost like babys first Battlefeild with added permenant training wheels. I'm told that in hardcore that stuff is removed, and i'd be inclined to give it a shot, but HC means less health and as a result more snipers, no one playing the game just sitting on a rock miles away knocking 1 out into their 12 times, picking their nose waiting for the silly sod's who are actually trying to win the game to turn up so they can pad their k/d ratio, i'll in the end stick the game and go on a sniper killing rampage out of spite.
Oh god i really have to stop cause this is turning more and more into a rant by the second.
I'll end on a high at least snipers are more rare than in previous titles.
