Post Torrents... Im a bit of a noob regarding em
Ok so I've finally got some torrents dl'ing (which is another reason ive been less active)

Just wondering, whats the best one to use? I'm currently using the new BitLord 2 beta thingy, but dl's vary between 3kbps and rarely up to about 30kbps.

Still ive got myself the DOTT talkie I wanted as well as Full throttle (what a game!), Fallout2, as well as the dreamcast version of Dead or alive 2 (which works great, just slightly slow. Also im much closer to a fully working SNK V capcom2 too. You just need the ChankastEX version)

Ive dl'd Utorrent but cant get it to work that well. So any advice from you Torrent masters out there? or are speeds just dependant on these leech and seed wotsits?

utorrent is awesome, pretty small and tight. foun azureus to be huge and really resource intensive.

gotta make sure your ports are opened correctly to ensure best speeds. utorrent has a handy check to make sure they are. im guessing most new versions of other software have the same.

make sure the ports on your software firewall and your incoming ports on your router are set correctly

utorrent is the best one i've found, used to use azureus but it's too big and clunky...

Speed depends on seeds, but also on how you've got it set up....if you've got ur upload speed set to unlimited you're probably gonna slow your downloads down due to the fact that they need to ping back occasionally, and if there's no bandwidth for them to do that then it goes slower...

Basic things are....get your upload/download speeds right, make sure your ISP doesn't shape torrent traffic (as in throttle the speeds torrents can go at - there are websites out there with lists of the isps that do this, if yours is one then try encrypting the torrents), if you've got a firewall/router, make sure that the port you're using for torrenting is open in both...

was having some probs with the nvidia firewall and it refusing to want to leave my machine- couldnt get rid of the damn thing.

Had more luck with utorrent (and was a tightass and set my upload to like 25kbps) was getting between 50kb and 100kb dl when dl'ing timeshift this morning... think it was like 8 seeds and 20 odd peers... sound about right? 13hrs to go lmao

Due to my super-lame BT router (voyager220V) I have problems sussing out port-forwarding and all that... messed with it a bit but had no clue which ports to forward and the BT router manager is utter pants to use. I'm sure I can find the ports I need in the torrent software if I continue fiddling.

Thanks for the help guys... I got DotT and full throttle and thats the important thing eh?

I seem to remember a certain open office program that people used as a sort of benchmark. It's so well seeded that you should be getting the upper limit of your download speed on it, so it's a good guide of what to expect. Unfortunately I don't have any links but try searching for it if you think it'll help

I don't use torrents. They always seem to give me permanent BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death). I have had to replace 3 hard-drives. It was definitely the torrent program as well because it would use the computer for months: all is fine. I install torrent program: Computer dies. Very, very odd. That's why I only use direct downloads now.

I use Utorrent or bitlord & your download speeds really depend on where your D/Ling from & how much they limit you.
I get insane speeds from a site called shadow.lv just google it, translate the page to english & then sign up
The only thing is you have to upload some stuff or they void your account but the speeds you get it at its worth giving a little back
