Master difficulty is just too much of a grind. I tried it but it just got found myself getting bored playing the same dungeon over and over again. I don't want to get bored that early.
If enemies were smarter, maybe, but they're not. Just more laborious to kill.
Enchantments that allow your spells to be more potent rather than just reducing magicka cost or increasing magicka regen would be nice too, assuming you don't abuse that alchemy-enchanting thing. I think some of the problems with these mods is they are trying to allow destruction to scale, but because they are doing it one skill tree with limited perks you either have it scaling nice into high levels, but scaling too fast early on, or scaling nicely for early levels but not really far enough later.
There's a bug atm that means the perk that makes your Fear spells stronger in the Illusion line also make your fire spells stronger, because they have a Fear component when upgraded. I think it just makes the spell description show it as 10 more damage and not much else, but It might be nice if say, Destruction gained some benefits from Conjuration and Vice Versa the same way 1handed/2handed effectively gain benefits from Smithing, Enchanting, Alchemy and Sneaking.
I'm such a nerd. Talking about balance in a single player game lol.
I think Bethesda games shine when you apply a little imagination to them. I see the ingame quests as nothing more than a framework to build your story around.
I imagine rattling off main and side quests like a shopping list and only going to places in search of a better sword would get quite dull quickly. I think the 'roleplay' part of 'roleplaying game' has been lost somewhat in these days of voice acting and whizzbang setpieces.
I've been playing Skyrim without applying meta-knowledge (as in, stuff you know as the gamer your character shouldn't know) or powergaming (like making 2000 iron daggers and suddenly being the greatest smith in all Tamriel) and I've been doing fine. I'm not even hardcore about it like some people are; some roleplayers only run in combat, wear appropriate clothing when going to sleep and eat 3 meals a day ingame!

After reading this review I am beginning to wonder if I should bother with the game.
Same old I have already done in previous Bethesda games.
I pretty much agree 100% with that review. But I never really played a Bethesda game before so I found it fun. I normally struggle to complete single player games before I get bored of playing on my own, but Skyrim sucked me in longer than most.
And yeah, you kinda have to make your own fun. When I did the Dark Brotherhood quests I tried to kill everybody in as inventive way as I could. Making Bride and Groom have a fight to the death was quite fun.
definitely some of the, if not the best, kiting aggressive npcs to other aggressive npcs action I've seen in a game, its got to the point that when I see a dragon the 1st instinct is to look at the map for a nearby giant camp or town, my record of punching all but 2 of the dragons to death so far is less impressive in reality than on paper >.>
after around 50 hours I hit an odd point of being able to step back from the game, asses it for what it is and it struck me as surprisingly shallow, but a good framework and easy to get your head stuck in it, fully agreeing with Bolt in the sense that it is kinda what you make of it.
recomend playing saints row the 3rd along side it, makes for a great alternative

Reading reviews is never enough when thinking about buying a game. You also need to think about what types of games you prefer playing. Try not to read the opinionated bits but the parts that tell you about the game itself and think "Will I like this type of game?"
I didn't even bother reading reviews for games series I like because I'm always 100% sure that I'll love the next game. I'm never wrong.
I liked the previous elder scrolls games and I love this one.
