'New-School' platformers, 2D and otherwise... what do we really think? Ok so I missed 'Shank' and 'Shank 2'... Loved my Trine and Braid and just recently grabbed 'Mask of the Ninja' and, so far, have been chuffed with it. Brings to mind playing oldies like Flashback on the Amiga/PC and even Mission Impossible/2 from back in the day. Are others finding it as fun as me? Or am I just on another nostalgia-trip? (wont be the first time!) I was wondering if this 'new' take on the ol' 2D genre was going to stick myself... and out came Deadlight this evening on Sale (anyone played on xbl etc?)... Safe to say I've enjoyed so much of the recent Side-scrolling stuff it's on download now, coudnt resist it! Long may our sides be scrolling! |

It probably will stick as long as us old-time gamers are still alive. Also, you should get La-Mulana, Cave Story and Iji, all of them are free but La Mulana and Cave story also has "Improved" versions for a pretty cheap price. La-Mulana is a PRETTY DAMN DIFFICULT Metroidvania like game, so if you like or love Super Metroid and/or Castlevania: Symphony of the night, get this game. Just get ready to die a lot and be frustrated! Also, there's a lot of traps, puzzles and mysterysolving. Cave story... Well, it's friggin Cave story, it's pretty damn epic, big and has a surprisingly sad story. Iji... An underrated Indie gem, a 2d platform shootemup with RPG elements, various endings based on your choices. Like, Iji, the female character you play as, is affected by how much you kill or not. |

Will definately check them thankyou! Heard of a few of 'em.. And for the record- Deadlight is amazing so far!! Really great for any other Zombie fans!! -Just be aware it's not a quick 2D install- runs in at 4.5gb!! Plays alot like the side-scrolling bits of Metal gear or Metroid other M (with a little Flashback nostalgia thrown in)... takes a good bit of grunt to run it at even 1280x1024 too! (though thankfully not necessary really here! for once a change in res not the end of the world) .. May well be cheaper on xbox too and is really best on a pad so grab it in whatever form! Mark of the ninja's great too... will be watching Deadlight very carefully though- could be a little special |
