Losing hope at finding old idie game.. someone could help!??
Right... I have been searching for this game for a couple of years now. Been searching and searching. I may even include an embarassing 5:40am paint mock up to confuse even further!
It was on a PCGamer (PCZone??) coverdisc, we have to be talking just post-doom. It was around the time everyone was playing that Worms-like Tank game with all the weapons and may have come off same disc. Def shareware... V.simple.
It's SO simple to describe too- may have been a DOS game.
It's 2 player (not sure if i even remember a menu or start screen) and you launch into a black bakground. I think each player (both on keys- one arrowe, one wasd) controlled a white dot or small box... but from that point you would get a wave of color, leaking out in one direction (I think the flow of colors always projected at the same angle for both players, or something. I think colors hitting other colors) would even start to swirl a little and mix/move the waves of color.. pushing them against each other.
This is as close as I can get at 6am!

May have had that snake-like mechanism where you ran out of more and more screen.. It got quite tactical. The more you moved around the more these colors spread quite organically, i think by changing direction sometimes. It looked beautiful, probably just clever color cycling but soon the screen was getting full of colors moving in a smoke like way. You could kinda make 'swirls'
The goal of the game was to trap the other player somehow- it almost reminds me of the Tron bike section.... but there was something about the way the colors changed that meant you could trap the person. If you approached the other player fast and directly it would kinda of push the wave of color toward them. Unless I'm losing it and it was just 1 colour vs another but im close to positive that the colours flowed and reacted with each other while you 'push them round, like oil on water.
I wish i could remember the actual mechanism more- i know my tactic was to hold back and build up a waving mass of color then push it forward toward player 2 before retreating and watching my 'color attack' morph toward him.
We played this game for hours. it was Doom era and one of the prettiest games id seen, if so simple. I
Graphically close (and i thought id found it for a min) was 'Plasma Pong'

NOT quite!!!
But no paddles, just 'dots' and when you moved them the direction and color flowing from the dot may change.

ahh thought it might have been like a remake of an old one or something.
ps: your liquid war suggestion looks promising from screenshots

no 1996 when i wasnt makin doom wads wed play this.... or, er, doom that era.. mightve even been DOS... alot of S/W was back then.... :/
was just totally black screen ...2 white 'points' and immediately colour would stream from both points- but i think it was like wind- you could affect them alot and they'd mix... i cant remember if you mustn't hit anything .... or u have a base colour... i remember like rushing up diagionally would kinda push the colours forward buuut around you. so you coudln't then stop.
the maker of this game is missing out big time on phones/tablet game.... we played it ALOT!

It's a mission dude... I had my tail firmly 'tween legs when asking "guys? er guys? im looking for some game... its just like... colours, man... they all collide and blend and you have to run away"
I will get into that PCG list though dude super helpful as I can narrow down the timeframe-ish. thank you.
Would make someone's day finding that code it's got tablet all over it and how many 2 player tablet games are good?
