Looks the business Fluff! - pity about the memory, but these things happen. :)

You've inspired me to install a gigabit network at TT towers, so I'm ordering a switch and a decent amount of cable. I think I can actually connect the host and client without too much hassle, so it's worth a shot.

:D

Yep. Complete with bats (well, squirrels). I don't want those buggers chewing through my ethernet line, the last one took out the loft light (and himself).

Haha, good thing that we almost have no squirrels here, only bats and they are harmless :P

Okay, RAM arrived and the machine works now (pew), SteamOS install worked fine but then it stopped at a command prompt, propaply it can handle the hardware since its missing a couple of drivers which are only available on CD.

I installed W7 now without problems and will try to initiate in-home streaming if I got time before work, if not I will do it this evenin'. Maybe I could try to install SteamOS via W7 but I dont need it TBH as long as W7 does its job.

Managed to get it to run even though experiencing some difficulties:

Had to limit the available bandwith to 10 mb/s, if I go higher it says "slow encode" which seems to be a problem with the host machine. [is it?]

Guess my CPU is a bottle neck. (still have my old i7-920) Though it only seems to occur with games which use a lot of GPU, like Wolfenstein or Watch_Dogs for example, with older games this doesnt seem to be as bad (like the Saboteur or CastleStorm).
