Dithering on whether to get the 4130 dual-core or the 4570 quad-core... would like to get down to £500 but don't want to have to rebuy the CPU in 2 years because everything needs a quad.
I mainly want to play Euro Truck Simulator 2, and maybe a bit of Assassin's Creed.
Do I really need an SSD if I'm very patient? I am going to meditate if that helps.
What about having 4GB of RAM instead? I can't get my head around it. Surely 4 is enough for anybody even in this day and age. Why is everyone rushing to get 8?
NVIDIA is non-negotiable due to personal superstition.
everyone is getting 8GB or 16GB due to the new consoles coming out, which have 8GB of shared RAM, with that it is highly likely devs will optimize their games for more ram, meaning you need more. 4GB is fine if you don't want to be playing any of the newish games on it at ultra quality textures etc
also, you are more likely to want 2 sticks of 4GB ram, as it will increase performance by using both memory channels in parallel.
a hard drive is fine, if you want your games to take seconds to start up, get a ssd.

Re: Building new rig - how does this look
Get the i5-4570k, pretty much same price as the non k version and it's a really good foundation for future upgrades.

Do you mean the 4670k? Is the only difference being that it can overclock? Not sure I would do that..

8gb ram will be plenty for the near future, keeping in mind you'd need a 64 bit operating system to use it, otherwise 4gb is what you need. As for dual channel vs. single channel there hasn't been definitive proof that there is a significant performance increase in video games between the two options. Therefore going single channel will be perfectly fine.
The system looks good. CPU can be upgraded to an unlocked version, a K-version, but if you aren't going to overclock it, then keep it.

Thanks PAX!
Ended up ordering an R9 270x instead, got a great deal on Amazon for £125 ish. And I didn't go for the SSD which I may regret, but oh well.
