Oh man, that's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. It's like Buddhism man, only when one lets go of everything, can he seek to attain enlightenment...or in this case a sweet 9600GT GFX card!
I finally managed to get something, not quite what i wanted but good nevertheless.
For anyone having the same issues as I did, its an 8600GT from MSI, low profile, sourced from CCL computers http://www.cclonline.com and cost £37.00. It runs off my Dell (Bestec) 250W PSU no problem (although the manual says 350W, I think the manufacturer is overstating it a bit)

Re: Graphics Cards
Could you give the link to the page of the graphics card you bought? I'm having trouble finding it on that site.
Hmmmm you had a 2400 xt before ? now a 8600 gt should be very little difference at all, especially when this is tf2 and it doesent matter waht graphics card you have uless you get a 48** series cards where its boosts it up quite a bit, I went from crap fps to over a 100 with a new cpu but when i was taking parts apart and tried tf2 with my old 6600 gt i got the same fps as my 2600 did if thats something to go on the differences as
Sam its plug in and paly pretty much, these wont even have a 6 pin pci-e cable to power it it wil lbe done through the pci-e socket, jsut slap it in (not literally) roll on pc then then install the drivers that came on the disk, then once in a while downlaod then latest drivers from the respective ati or nvidia sites, as the standard drivers are crap and gonig from crap in box drivers on my 2600 to latest ones got quite a boost last time

Re: Graphics Cards
I have an x1300 at the moment, hopefully my card is awful enough to make the upgrade worth it... I get 20-30 FPS in combat situations on low/medium, no AA and 1024x768.
