Post 8800 rain :(
Ok, 90% of my games are crashing & im scared its tf2 next!
It starts with like white rain on screen then will just go black or multi colourd & i have to restart my comp. Task manager wont work or anything like that.
It hasnt crashed with tf2 yet but i have noticed these lines appearing while playin that now too.
Tried newest drivers & all the other stuff you try when you get these problems but still the same.
I think its the dodgy 8800gt i got sent as a replacement for a 7950gx2 only 2-3 months ago.
The Gt does not have a cooling fan but instead has these poxy pipes & a stupidly large heatsink & iv seen the same sort of white lines appear when i overclocked a gforce4 a few years ago.
Anyway i sent an RMA to the place i got it from& still aint heard a thing from them so if any of you guys can help in any way at all id really be thankful
Cheers

If you think it's overheating check the temps of everything. Try leaving your case open to see if it helps.

Any chance of testing either another card or on a different rig?

Could be it's the mobo going furbar'd, but is unlikely as they are quite resilient

Does sound like graphics card memory getting too hot. My ancient 9800 pro did that a few years ago... once I put a desk fan pointing into the case it worked... until i could afford a new card.

What PSU are you running juju? Although it does sound like GPU skullduggery cos of the coloured lines.

Yeah i agree with everyone else sounds liek the card is over heating, when i overclock my card too far i get them artifact appearing on the screen so i have to lower the clocking as its gets too warm overclocked

As others as stated, over heating, the best and in fact cheapest way of fixing this over the years is;

Take side case of and buy a nice cheap desk fan, point at case and hey presto :D

Befpre doing the above i would say give a good old clean out, i had problem a few year back that was solved by cleaning out fans ect :)

good clean our with compressed air is most recommended, my old rig used to get jammed up with dust something rotten, to the point where the machine would just shut itself down when running cos it got too hot.

i ran the machine in the bios and found the cpu temp continued to rise even just in the bios, good clean out resolved that prob.

also if u recon ur card is overheating maplins does an excellent little gadget that you can install atop your cards, i stuck this in my old rig i had a 6600GT which when ever it got hot 80 degrees hot, i could smell burning and didn't like it, so i stuck the fan in and it worked a whole lot better.

good fan to get lots of air into your system is this one

and

^^ the fan sits on top of the cards, takes a single molex connector (HDD plug) and i recon that will cool your card nicely. for a tenner maybe with while doing
