Is your mobo SLI certified or is Crossfire an equally appealing option?

What happened to the 8800GT?

What's the spec of the rest of your machine?

I don't think it's necessary to spend £300 unless you have money to waste :D

The rest of my comp spec is

Intel q6600 (2.4x4)
4gb crucial ram
abit fatality mobo
720w psu
audigy 2
& 2 samsung HDD's

I just want something to last me a couple of years tbh & i realise thats a long time in GPU's but its also stupidly expensive

there's more than one model of Fatality Mobo it seems. Is it an SLI mobo (2 x PCIe slots?).

If it's an SLI board, I'd stick with Nvidia, just in case at some point you decide to pair up your new card with another one.

MAyby get the new 9600 ? GX2 thing that is nearly twice as good as a 8800GT as not many games are optimized for sli and this will cost about the same

Don't buy a new graphcard when both companies are just weeks away from releasing new models!

I'd say if you had to choose now an Nvidia 9800GTX for the £200 mark. Wish I had waited a few more weeks when I got my 8800GTX for it personally, as my card dropped in price like hell after it :f Oh well that's the hardware market for you, either pay a bit more for it now or wait for forever to get it a bit cheaper :P
