Sorry - been offline swapping motherboards etc etc etc.
Ended up buying a 24" monitor for £135 instead of the gfx card - just couldnt resist at that price. Ex demo but totally unmarked still with protective film on and a PVA panel too - well impressed.
Gfx card will be bought next month instead. Yes the 7900GTX could be up for sale, but its a power hungry monster, possibly not best suited to ICE. Depends what you want though, itll run TF2 at 1920 x 1200 res so its plenty powerful. I just want my details up above medium/low at this res, only reason im upgrading.
Id be happy to let it go for £50 incl postage if anyone wanted it. Have the original box and should have the vivo cables and stuff too.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk for the 8800GT for cheap, it was on this week only special. Make no mistake though, they are, politely put, a complete shower of bastards so don't trust them or expect any level of service if you need a replacement, refund or tech support.
You can also try http://www.tekheads.co.uk - brilliant company, highly recommended, only place ive never had a bad experience with. Customer support is A1 too and they have decent forums.
Failing that try http://www.aria.co.uk - not had a bad experience with these either, but ive not had cause to use any after sales yet either.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk - pain in the ass if you get faulty stuff, but they do on the spot testing if you go to store and twist their arm a bit, and their web support system is pretty good.
http://www.ebuyer.com - usually the cheapest around if youre buying a few things, usually beaten on individual price, but not over a whole list. They were utterly terrible at their conception, RMA took months and i stopped using them for a couple of years. However they are now apparently very good on returns/exchanges/credit notes and the website is a lot better too. Also do mobiles, home electricals and lifestyle now.

Re: I did it!
Should also point out that youre still going to get low drops in FPS with that cpu and setup mate.
My 7900GTX is considerably slower than your 8800GTS 320 and I can get a steady 60fps (or more, vsync on so cant tell) at 1920 x 1200 resolution using low/mid details. Thats with an E8500 @ 4.2ghz and mem at 1066mhz.
Try going old school like me first and just set all your tf2 gfx options to off - also check your driver to make sure youve not got some for of antialiasing or anisotropic filtering turned on. Also set your performance mode to single monitor as for some reason the default is dual which loses you several fps.
Not what you wanted to hear maybe, but imo your money may be better saved and spent on a new board/cpu(/memory?/powersupply?).
i get a random, 80-35 from my 8600 gts on full and bottom settings, my old 8800gt had a steady 100+ on full and it was about 3 years old, i think is more to do with the company that mods it than anything else

Oh Im not getting low fps in tf2 (min 45, max 200+, average 85, on high-max settings that is), I just wanna upgrade for all the eyecandy in other games. But you're right, upgrading mainboard+cpu first probably makes more sense (also gladly taking suggestions there if you have time of course, my go-to hardware guy is on vacation at the mo ).
Also might need new case fans (lol like thats worth mentioning)...got a 4 fan case and yet my GPU hit the 80° bar playing cod4 the other day :S But I digress...as always, appreciate the input. <3
