Ati drivers are way better than Nvidias though i dont get it Ive never had a problem with a Ati card or drivers only nvidia ones not supporting any games past 2006 which is a cockslap whe nyou paly lots of old games
but then you have the open gl and direct 3d thing with old games, a lot of old games used to run better (at the time) on open gl but now its completely phased out and direct x is the standard

I'm bloody furious about this. Since being forced to use the 7.8 drivers, my fps has taken a nosedive. On the new 8.9 drivers I get solid fps, always above 30 on 1024x768, but random blue screens.
On the 7.8 drivers I've been forced to use I get wild stutters with it getting as low as 10 fps in firefights ON 800x600!
I've tried every driver between 7.8 and 8.9, agp hotfixes and normal, and they all result in the same bluescreens which is weird since the drivers I used before all this mess were the 8.4 ones. I'm tempted not to bother playing tf2 again because I can't hit anything with this performance.

Yeah, with the newer drivers any game bluescreens within 10 mins or so. It's okay till you get in a game.
The 7.8 ones are stable, but the performance is crap. I already have a config that rapes the visuals and everything is on low so it's not my ingame settings.
I've dried disabling agp 8x and fast writes in the bios, no help. I checked the card itself, the fan works fine and even when I underclock it it still does this. I'd love to upgrade the whole system, but I really can't afford it and the only better agp cards are bloody ATI ones anyway!
Yeah, as soon as I can afford it I'm getting the best agp nvidia card I can find. Which seems to be the 7800 one. Anything higher would be bottlenecked by my creaky athlon xp 3200+ cpu anyway.
Till then I guess I'll have to put up with 15 fps when trying to shoot people
