Re: R.I.P my laptop
Yep sounds like hard drive failure to me. Might be able to reformat it but its probably better to get a new one.

Tried reconnecting the HDD,FAIL. Also warranty had been gone for a while now. Probably gonna hand it over to a pro.

Re: R.I.P my laptop
DJ is bang on the money there - either dvd/cd in drive (unlikely), hdd cable worked loose (possible) or hdd dead (most likely).
If you need data back off your hdd then google for a program called "Ghost". If you download the latest version of Hiren's boot cd (google again - easy to find ) it will have Ghost on it. You will also need a hard disk caddy or a hdd to usb converter cable. To be on the safe side seal your laptop hdd in a freezer bag and stick it in the freezer for a couple of hours - there's a long and technical explanation as to why this helps partially broken hard disks work for a while, but thats not important atm and i'm not sure i fully understand it anyway .
You then want to use Ghost to record an image of the hard disk to your other pc. When you then get a new hdd to replace it with you can ghost that image back on to the new disk and everything will be as it was previously. no messing round installing windows, drivers, tf and configs.
This is all assuming a quick trip to the freezer will bring it back for a while. You will usually get between 10 minutes and an hour of life out of a dead disk thats been frozen, hopefully just enough time to get your data off.
