I seen recently that there was something you could get for your PC to give it more ram, without having to buy a new mother board. Im running a 500mb ram pc... yeah crap i know, though my processor isnt that fine either.
Anyway, i was thinking of gettin one of these ram uppers, providing you guys say they work, but also is it worth increasing ur ram when your processor is still under min req for most modern games? What other advantages does higher ram have?
(Ill find out my processor speed later, i have laptop for forums and a pc for games, my pc is off atm)
i saw those too and was thinking the same, you can get them as usb flash drives but i am a little skeptical

Re: Extra RAM?
Vista memory boost is tbh not worth it. Its very slow access speed over the usb interface increases your cpu usage and gives you slightly faster access than your hard disk would during normal paging operations. As data still has to be fectched from the HDD in the first place though you still end up waiting for your HDD anyway...
You're far better off upgrading you system memory. If you can go to http://www.cpuid.com and download cpuZ it will give us the necessary info to tell you what you need to get. Take screenshots of the first page, mainboard page and memory page and post them up here. RAM is cheap at the moment so its a godo time to buy. Traditionally it gets more expensive for a while after xmas.
RAM would speed your system up, but if your processor is painfully slow you do not have much to gain by sticking extra RAM in. I make no judgements on how much you know (I'm no expert, I'm a layman!), so I'm going to spout.
RAM is used for preloading data for programs as they run. However, this data can only be preloaded onto the RAM as fast as the processor can transfer it. So one or both can be a limiting factor on a slow system, and adding extra in the form of an external unit OR new sticks may not help. But we don't know how big your processor is.
As I haven't had a lot to do at work for the last few days, I've been reading up on a lot of different things. My noob level has gone down a little, my geek level has risen a notch.

Re: Extra RAM?
You would get less stuttering in-game with more memory, this is due to less swapfile usage (things being moved in and out of RAM onto the hard disk). 512mb is not enough for a gaming pc, if you can upgrade to 2gb it may be worth it (unless your processor is a complete dog and your memory is DDR1)
I thought ram was used for data that has been processed etc to store temoparily so that i can be recalled without re processing it either that or im thiking about something completely different
Oh and seriously 2gb ram atleast for games
