I thought anything up to about 200C was very cool for an Ati card ;)

75c is within operating range but a tad high mate. I dont like seeing anything above 60 tbh!

Dude I think mine hits like 90 .... I hope that's .f !! :s

And those 180. XP drivers were chod from the start I think. Cant remember what problems I had with them but remember them coming off right away.
Come to think of it my XP partition is now being outperformed by my Vista one... hmmm :(

Weird with the L4D connection though...

Glad ur back in action 3F m8.

Any update from you Bedizen? Tried an earlier driver than 178.13 yet dude?

Oops, I haven't been here in a while.

I've tried the older physX enabled one and it was marginally more stable. Has got worse over time, about as bad as before now with random freezeouts (can usually make it back into game if I task manager out and then maximise again, only works 70% of the time though). I'm going to regsweep and install the pre physX ones to see what happens. Until today, I didn't really know what physX actually was... Ahem.

I see to have two sorts of crashes, bear with me...

1) The bad one. The screen freezes, then the audio goes silent, then goes "DRDRDRDRDR" (repeating whatever sound was playing at the time, almost funny if it is someones voice). Then it goes silent, goes "DRDR" and I get the vista problem encountered box". No recovery, have to close and restart.

2) The not so bad one. The screen freezes, and the audio goes on an infinite "DRDRDRDRDRDRDRDRDR" loop. I am able to ctl+alt+del out, minimize to desktop, maximise TF2 and it works again (although with annoying invisible players sometimes, almost always a pyro or the most l33t pr0 player ever who keeps on fucking me again and again with harsh remorselessness)

I'll keep you updated, cheers for asking Pils!

:D

NO worries bed - sounds very like the same problem myself and 3f were having so hopefully a driver of about that time will work for you. 3f found the 177.83 driver was best for him, but that ones just as bad for me, i can only run 177.92. I think some experimentation may be needed unfortunately :?.

Symptoms sound like a memory leak somewhere. Graphics card or RAM is running out of available space, and what's using it won't let go.

New/different drivers might solve it. Make sure you strip all trace of the current ones out first though.

Yup, I'm using the Pilsy approved method (a hammer?)

Going through some of the older driversets. One seemed stable last night but then had the "not so bad crash" twice. I need to play for a while longer though to ascertain how stable they really are (Ladies Night tonight is always a good test).

The search continues, I've got set 177.70 to try out if these ones don't survive.

Bloody nightmare isnt it? Especially seeing as the only common theme seems to be a pre-PhysX driver being required of an indeterminate age.

I do have an HL2:Episode 2 optimised driver if anyone wants to try it. Think its someone between 169.x and 172.x. Will have a search when ive finished work and see if I can upload them to HH space somewhere for ppl to download and try. They were brilliant for my 7900GTX, but I think they only support the 8 series 320mb/640mb/768mb, no GT support or newer.

Bo - you need 9c mate :). I think TF2 should run with 9b but anything newer requires it afaik?

Infact ive just realised my problems with gfx drivers started when I installed the August 08 dx9c update. Bugger. And thats when my mic boost option disappeared thinking about it.

Hmmm...co-incidence?
