ye it's quite easy to get the polling rate up to 1000hz whatever mouse u own.
Lo and behold my mouse came back to life- if only tested for a few hours in L4D running in XP.
I have to say though, excuses aside, it made the difference of getting a headshot with the M16; to not being able to get one from any distance with the 'basic optical'. I mean, were not even talking about an intellimouse here!
Will look into all these value mice you huys have been touting too- it's only a matter of time before it dies and the excuses return

what with my creaky joints and that RSI spat I think that would just break my hand on contact spidey!
Not that it doesnt look very striking- almost like a CAD mouse.
Have found said fault on the Habu. Faulty wire (always the simple things) -although I do tape my mouse cable to the desk to avoid it snaking everywhere, so maybe it was stressed in a certain point.
Still it's barely a year old.
Def need something with 2000dpi+ - I couldnt believe the difference when I swapped back to it- my accuracy improved ALOT! Ill still be using the Lazer- even if I'll be shouted at everytime it disconnects.
Quite like the Razer brand as they have a rather special way of promoting their products at roadshows! mmmmRazerGirlsmmmm
Right now I use a crappy wireless mouse, that can't transmit movements faster than a certain speed; which is quite low given the great skill many players at HH servers show; so I think my Christmas caprice will be a nice gaming mouse.
Thanks for your posts, they have given me a notion of what to look for.

Re: Mouse woes- (excuses excuses)
Get a G9 like me and never worry again, honestly one of my best computer purchases. On the pricey side yes but I doubt you will beat it.
And yer there is a big difference in response times between the speeds of the usb port. If you are below you need to o/c to 500 immediately if your mouse can take it. 1000 I wouldn't worry about as it is a small gain for a large increase in resources.
Well atm id say logitech are great, main problem for me is that im so hardcore at gaming im gonig through mouse feet like no tommorow but thankfully G5 and G9 mouses you can get replacement feet for very easliy, only difference between G5 and G9 is the shape and the dpi if you dont use such a high sensetivty then i would get the cheaper G5 if shape is no problem, make sure you get the G5 2007 edition with the extra mouse button
G5, G9, and Sidewinder look excellent choices. I have just read nice reviews about the MX518 also. It maybe fits my preferences best, as I like setting sensitivity quite low, and one of this mouse's strong points is its tolerance to fast movements. It is a bit cheaper than the G5, too.
Cheers, and merry Christmas!
