my getup (that the time of first post) 8600 gtx, ocz flexII @1200mhz, E8500 @4.5ghz can run tf2 @ 1080X1920 on min settings @ 45 fps. not ideal but doable. your rigs not too diff from mine. except all the ott watercooling
At mininium settings Surely that cpu could do more than 45 fps?
What Hz you need is dependant on what fps you'll be getting. For me my 100hz CRT is much smoother and nicer to play on than my 60Hz cheap nasty LCD @125fps in old games , in tf2 my fps is between 100 and 40 so its harder to notice the difference . The advantage with moniter Aka posted is that it has apparently close to 0 input lag combined with 120hz.
no idea what those specs are for mine, but with my 4890 in it ran on max with 199 fps solid and felt great. ill test this out as soon as the new 4890 gets here today, if it does get here today

expensive but appearently one of the only flatpanel that can get close to a crt (just qyotin etf2l forums here, im not that deep into hardware) but if yr comp can run 60-120 fps it whould be awesome.
I'm not too concerned about having a 120Hz display, TF2 chugs at 20FPS on Viaduct just because it feels like it, and I get by. I'm not sure I'd even notice the difference between 60 and 120 FPS even in games that I can actually run that fast. So I'd say this monitor would be a bit overkill.

The monitor NTrailZ has is an Iiyama e2201w-b1. They replaced it with the b2 which was rubbish, so do not get that one. NTrailZ's version has 0 input lag as well.
Input lag is one of the most important factors, my Dell 2407wfp has ~30ms input lag and is awful. It feels like you are dragging the mouse pointer around and is a game ruiner (unless you are blind, some people say they don't notice it).
If I was buying an LCD for pc gaming (my 2407wfp is relegated to xbox usage) I would rank Input Lag as the most important factor, followed by G2G latency (most TN panels are 2ms - 5ms these days anyway).
LCD's are a minefield anyway, poor backlight uniformity. Rubbish black levels and poor colour reproduction.. meh!
Unfortunately 120hz still doesn't fix smearing/blurring on quick turns, which is why I still use a CRT capable of 150hz.

LG L227WT has average 10ms (maximum 20ms) of input lag

I haven't noticed this at all, and I'm only at 60Hz.
Also, where did you find that information about input lag on the 227WT? I went straight to this monitor from a 19" CRT, mostly 1280x960@100Hz in games and I haven't noticed any input lag.

You sir are blind if you do not notice smearing/afterglow/blur on a TFT. (they will always exhibit this appearance due to no vertical blank cleansing the image.
And I looked up reviews of an L277WT monitor (as with most monitor manufacturers they mess about and create revisions which may or may not be different in performance). A few european review sites state 10ms lag.

Well I have to say, I notice it. It pisses me off at times. I have some belinea 19" wide. thing. Dont know anything about it as I have not the box or info (gift from friend) and looking on google I failed !
I am interested in getting a better monitor around christmas, I shall be following this topic carefully
