First thing, tell us your model number. You can usually find it on the barcode bit behind the battery.

The rule goes, the older the psp, the easier it is to mod.

Swamp you suck, the v1.0 was a piece of piss to hack the firmware. :P

Minty, It looks like it may be possible with the 3003 now.

Thread here about it:
http://forums.pspslimhacks.com/psp-3000 ... eeded.html

A guides methods of doing it:
http://forums.pspslimhacks.com/psp-3000 ... eeded.html
http://pspslimhacks.com/guide-to-chickh ... 00-ta88v3/

Might be impossible if the latest firmware is on it (if you updated). I haven't hacked one of these for at least a year so Im out of the loop now. That thread seems to have a lot of the info anyways. Good luck.

Bad luck minty...could always look for a second hand one with old firmware on I spose.

Swamp, I last did one for a mate about a year ago. It had a more recent firmware on it and I accidentally bricked it lol. Then I discovered that you can unbrick it using the pandora battery hack. AFter that it was easy to downgrade it then upgrade to mod firmware. This guy/group called Dark alex makes the best ones. The other weird thing was the UMD drive had stopped working on his PSP, when I put the mod firmware on it started working again lol

So yeah its not too hard, unless its got a recent firmware or its a PSP slim like mintys.

But yeah Ill have a crack at it for you...

Its all alittle beyond me, i did try and do it and got so far on so many walkthroughs. Basically i dont think my umd drive works either any more it wont read any of the old umds, but im not sure if its bricked like i said as everything else still works, ie the browser n stuff cos i play snes games fine with sound n stuff. I never actually updated the firmware either and i got it when they was released so it still should be like 1.50 or something if i remeber rightly. We have a chat about it on vent next time your on anyway, ill be about tonight :P

Well, I had PSP with a custom firmware once, but I sold it a couple of months ago.

I usually did the "cracking" with a pandora battery which worked like a charm (at least two times!) but you need an already cracked PSP to create one.

As far as I can explain it worked liked this..you put a custom firmware on a ...which was it? sd card? and then theres a little program on your cracked psp which overwrites the battery to create some kind of boot loader. Put that in the original psp and start, the rest was just a piece of cake following the instructions.
Take the battery out then, hook the custom psp on the electric socket, start the program, put the battery back in, tell it to change the battery to normal again and there you go, all done.

But its just a very simple explanation where everything could go severly wrong :3

Custom firmwares are updated regulary and installation is easy :3

I think if you hit it with a stick it usually works.
