Post New HDD and new Memory required.
Hey guys, been a while since I posted here.

I still play semi regular on your servers and figured you always helped out when I asked before so heres my question.

I require a new hard driver and 2g more memory for under £80 not including P&P which I would like to be free :P or less than a fiver. Tough I know.
I need memory no slower than my current ddr2 800mhz. Also id like a hard driver to be pretty quick and have at least 250g of space. I have looked at the Caviar blue series of hard drives and see they are supposedly quite good and most are about 30-35 quid.

Although im halfway there, I am crap when it comes to hardware and I know little of where to get it from. Coupled with the fact that I have been told to try and get the same memory again. However Adata doesnt seem to be popular and thats what my current 2x1g are. I have room for 2 more slots aswell.

Would I be best searching my hardest for Adata memory ? or would any memory of the same speed do ? also would I benefit more from 1 stick of 2g or 2x1g ?

Thanks in advance let me know if any more info is needed.

Sigh

edit : I dont mind second hand memory so if anyone is selling some ? :D

What memory do you have right now? The exact model would be nice.

If you be so kind as to post your motherboard model here it would be nice too.

What kind of operating system do you have? A 32-bit or 64-bit? If you have only 32-bit there's no need to go over 3 GB of RAM because 32 bit OS cannot use more than 2^32 bits (which is 4096 MB, but Windows limits it to +-3.2 GB of addressable memory and the rest is used for hardware components)

Well, I am starting to be afraid that I cannot help you well, my memory solution (4 GB, 1066 MHZ, dual channel) would be 80 pounds by itself. :D

Better using 2x1gb definitely.

This kit should work fine alongside what you already have.

You could take a risk on this kit which should work fine. You may need to manually set memory timings and increase memory voltage a little though. If you feel confident that you can do this though youll save yourself £10 on the kit plus the free postage.

Regards hard disk - just get the biggest you can afford. I take it were talking SATA? Preferred makes are Seagate and Samsung for reliability. 500gb Seagate w/32mb cache, 24/7 usage rating and 5 year warranty. Also free delivery as its amazon. All that for the bargain price of £43.46. Couldn't find anything equivalent for less anywhere else once you factor in postage, 32mb cache and 24/7 5 yr warranty.

awesome thanks for the replies. I know nothing about memory timings and that so id have to be really careful.
As for the harddrive again I know very little but im assuming its pretty good if your recommending it ? :D

Id like the second memory due to the money saving, any chance you could point me towards a way to do what you said ?

Also I wont be getting these things until the 19th so should I check on the today only things for scan ? and I think overclockers do something simular ?
