512 MB of RAM isn't any real upgrade over 1 GB
2x1 GB kit is definitely better

sigh if you can download CPUz from www.cpuid.com for me and run that we can see what timings you memory is setting already.

Once you've launched the program go to the memory page and take a quick screenshot of it for me - may find its setting compatible values already. DFI boards are _excellent_ for memory compatibility due to the huge amount of memory timings you can adjust. If the auto values are acceptable already it'd make life a lot easier.

Do bear in mind though that you could be letting yourself in for a nightmare if you do need to tweak memory timings, and its not something we can really help you much with. Its a very long and time consuming process if the auto timings function doesnt work due to the sticks being too "different" and is basically a process of elimination to find what value each timings needs to be at when running in a mixed chip environment.

Anyway, the cpuz screenshot will make things more obvious.

I'd personally buy this http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/2161/1428/ ... type=genre
(if you want 4 Gigs of RAM), it's better than 2 single RAMs because they don't have dual channel support and this kit has.

(if I am wrong, please correct me)

ah I was under the impression it was the motherboard that provides the dual channel feature ?

When you have a diesel, you must pump in diesel in order to make it work. ;) (and vice versa)

Some RAMs won't work together in dual channel mode so it's definitely better to buy a kit.
