Well today I tried downloading pictures from my Canon PowerShot A590 IS to the computer. I plugged the data cable in the photo camera and then into the computer and HURRAH... nothing happened Since I installed Windows 7, I have downloaded photos several times and it worked like a charm but today it didn't want to work. I think that it may have something to do with it falling down. The data cable has this round box along it I think that because of the fall something might be broken inside it. Any ideas?

The round box is a ferrite choke, which reduces electromagnetic interference. You can't really break them unless you smash them apart with a hammer. Try a different USB port. Sometimes this will cause the OS to redetect a device.
I tried that in all 6 USB ports and it doesn't work. I read the manual and I found out that my camera can transfer files directly to the computer. I don't know how but until I find a solution I'll try that.
EDIT: I'm more than sure that something about the cable is broken. I tried it on a different computer. Overall I decided to buy a card reader.
Is it a mini-USB cable? (most devices seem to use these nowadays) If so check if you've got a spare lying around before you go buy a card reader and try it out.
