Before you spunk cash on a new mic, have you tried it on another computer to see if the error is hardware or software based?

Speculative ask for anyone with experience of a Plantronics DSP500 mic apparently dying for no reason. Worked fine on Skype call to work at 11.30am today, next usage at 5pm the mic didn't work. Not in Skype, not in TF2, not in Windows Sound control panel. I've found one web reference with instructions on how to take the thing apart to see if anything's up inside, but I'd prefer to exhaust non-invasive options first.

Alternatively, suggestions for a new headset around the £30-40 mark are welcome ;)

I bought a new headset for 20 RON which is around 4.5 £ and it works great.

Cheers for the advice folks. Mic still definitely dead on other comps, and when I opened it up I couldn't see anything obviously wrong :(

So, new headset it is. Lots of recommendations for the fatal1ty set, but I have a couple of questions:

1. It's 3.5mm jack rather than USB. So that means it requires two sockets, one for line out and one for mic in, yes?

2. I've seen quite a few people mention that it's not all that confortable, and is quite tight over your ears. Have any of you had similar experience?

it is 2 3.5mm jacks, like you say, which as alot of poeple will tell you is generally better than a usb interface.

i've never had any comfort issues with mine, and i have a fat head :D

Personally I'd go for certain headset ( the one I got myself, Razer Megalodon. I just love the sound filtering on the mic personally. ) but it is quite pricey and the fatal1ty is quite good for it's price. So you can go for that one, you have my support at least. A couple of my friends got it so it gotta be good enough.

It should be clever, witty, kind, with a sports car and a big cock.

I'd recommend Steelseries 5Hv2. It has never let me down and is extremely comfortable.

I had fatalities before but I can safely say that these are better.

My fatal1ty headset did hurt a bit in the beginning, but I'm used to it now. Rather small cups though, so my ears do bend.

Got it with USB, works fine. I use my soundcard for my speakers/HIFI, so it's nice to be able to swap according to need without fiddling with cables :)

(It's this one, HS-1000)

Oh, and it's not that good with long hair. It gets stuck in the joints. After a good game session, I sometime have to rip out chunks of hair :( Ouch. (But I got shoulder length hair)

Yeah, had 3 of these before they kept breaking up one way or another, not gonna trust steelseries anymore with my money.

Looks nice. I'm gonna buy those the next time then :) They got it in a USB model too, so that's awesome <3

What have you been doing to them then? Mine has fallen off a distance of 50cm hundreds of times and it's not even showing signs of degration.
