Post "Preparing to Launch"
Need some help with this one folks as the Steam Help isn't being of much use.

Can't seem to run TF2 all of a sudden. Ran fine last night, tonight? Nothing.

Steam runs fine, happily loads up. Click the "Play" button for TF2, get the "Preparing to Launch" window, it vanishes, and then....nothing.

Even watched it in the Task Manager. HL2.exe appears, then quickly vanishes. Doesn't run at all.

Any suggestions? Bloody annoying to loose TF2 a day before a major update xD

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried deleting clientregistry.blob and/or verifying the game cache?

Post Re: "Preparing to Launch"
Fair point, I'd best list what I've tried!

Have done/tried the following:

* Verified the cache
* Ran another Source game to test if it was isolated (L4D2, though will test HL2 in just a sec to make sure)
* Tried to run with the commands; -safe, -safemode, -window, -windowed
* Updated my drivers (Now to 10-6 from 10-5 Catalyst)
* Ran a CCleaner
* Restarted the PC five times so far between trying different things
* Deleted ClientRegistry.blob (New)
* Tested TF2 on another computer on my network. Worked fine (New)
* Tried to run HL2 + Ep1+2. Both worked fine (New)
* Will copy TF2 from the other PC and test...

I'm running Windows7(64bit) if it matters too.

Edit: Added extra stuff I've tried.

Gave it a punt Nemko, but no dice. That didn't work either.

Did make Steam update itself a few times though.

Copied over another copy of TF2 from another PC on the network.

TF2 runs again, but briefly jumps back to desktop between the Valve shot at the start and the menu screen. Never did that before.

Asides from that, just ran it and played on a server. Seems stable.

So, in short, I've no idea what caused it, but I guess something corrupted in my files. xD

Add -novid into launch options and see what happens. :)

Thankfully the Engi Update rectified the problems I was having. I guess something went a bit strange is all.

Though I now can't seem to keep my filters on the server list xD

Ah well, small mercy is that I can play TF2 again tbh.
